Knight Bighorn
« on: October 14, 2009, 04:09:04 PM »
I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say hi.

I just bought a Knight Big Horn. I haven't got to shoot it yet but maybe this weekend. Got a great deal on it at Bi-Mart. It's got the thumb hole stock and SS barrel. I'm not wild about the stock but we'll see what I think after I shoot it. :IBCOOL:

Now I'm just can't wait for late deer to go kill something with it. :hunter:

So what powder and bullet combo's does everyone shoot that has a big horn?

Anyone got any words of wisdom for me? :dunno:

I can tell you that I have the exact same gun and tried alot of different ammo.  I have found that the Hornady SST's (250 or 300) shoot well but I have settled on Harvester PT Gold with crushed rib sabots in 260grain.  I shoot 100 grains of 777 pellets (with musket caps) and it works well for me.  The bighorn has a very tight barrel so you should use the crushed rib sabots or the easy loading sabots from hornady.  I took my buck on opening day with the PT Golds at 75 yards and it only made it 20 yards before expiring.  I am very happy with these bullets.  Anyway, just my  :twocents:

I shoot the Hornady 300 SSt's with 95 gr's of 777 and it is VERY ACCURATE !!!
Fell off a ladder and ended my season early but I've no doubt in my mind the gun would have worked very well.

howdy, i don't have that gun but have shot alot of muzzleloaders and diffrent combos of bullets and powder since you are new to muzzleloaders by the sounds of it i would try the pellets by pyrodex use 2 for a 100 if they are 50 grains that is always a good start the bullets that i have used and like the best are percission rifle dead centers they are lead with a poly tip lots of weights but i use the bigest the 340 had nothing but good luck with them this year since we can use any type of bullet i am using the barnes tmz in 290 and they shoot great can't wait to take a animal with them musket caps are what i use and are the hotest over the 10 and 11 if you shoot the 11 try the 11 magnums they are a bit hotter and good luck to you

Love my bighorn.  3 elk and 2 deer with it. Good luck with 105 grs 777 powder and 325 gr. TC maxi hunters. I put a disc between the powder and bullet.
Not much luck with sabots

Will try Barnes next year.

bimart in Eburg?  Hmmm...might need to go check that out.  My dad drew the multi tag this year and he skipped muzzleloader because he didn't have a gun.  I had to borrow one a couple of years ago when I drew.  I was thinking of buying a muzzleloader (it was fun to shoot, anyway) and just loaning it to my dad if he draws again.

I've got the same exact gun, SS and thumbhole stock and I love it.  I've been using 100 grains of 777 pellets and a 348 grain Powerbelt Aerotip bullet.

halflife65,
Yeah check at Bi-Mart. The one I got was the only one they had, but I got a great deal on it.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I think I'm gonna buy some Powerbelt Aerotip's and try those   :brew:
