Reloading WSM cartridges?????
« on: October 15, 2009, 01:34:45 PM »
OK, have decided I simply need to figure out a way to reload my 325wsm and my buddies 300wsm.  Has anyone had any luck duplicating factory velocities when reloading for the short mags and if so, what powders have you used to do it?  Which powders would you not try again?  Thanks.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

Surpassed them easily.  Just about any powder I tried would surpass factory velocity.  Search there has been some previous posts on loads.  I think I posted up my 165gr data.

Look at Magpro powder, it is great stuff.  Loaded up for my brothers 300wsm using that and 165 NP, mag primer and winchester brass.  Getting just over 1/2 in groups at 100 yds.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

I have found the same with the case necks. I haev heard a lot of good things about h 4831 with the wsm's but imr 4350 has worked decent with mine so far. I think I will change to 4831 after hunting season and see what happens.

Same issue with the case necks in my 270 wsm.  Need to go a little shorter or they won't chamber.  Other than that easy enough to reload.

I am having great luck with both Magpro and even better results with RL-17 in the 300 wsm and the 270 wsm.  I trim the cases .010 short and use RCBS "X" dies.  Works great at limiting case growth.
My winter project is a 325 wsm.  Can't wait!

Same problem with the case necks in my 270wsm. Like all have said trim a little under and no problems.  If you havent tried the new Re-17 you should.  140gr berger vld, 63gr re-17 = 3300fps out of my Tika.  Not to mention a 5 shot group of .6".  Not too shabby in my book

I reload for my 300 WSM and have great luck with it.  180 gr Nosler partition and IMR 4831 with a mag primer gets me .5" group at 100 yrds.  According to the Nosler book I think i'm in the 2900's for velocity, not positive though without the book in front of me.

I used H4350, CCI250 primers and a variety of bullets when I was reloading for my 325WSM.  150gr Hornady soft points and 200gr Nosler Accubonds grouped the tightest.  The most accurate load I came up with was 150gr Hornadys with 65.1grs of H4350.

well here is my two cents. i have a full custom 300wsm built by def edge. I'm shooting a Berger 185gr vld match bullet with 61 grns of viht h550 and I'm also using 4831 (65.5grns) as well as rem match rifle primers. both are around 3050 fps i have worked up over 30 diff loads for my 300wsm and these two both give me just under .30 in groups. fps. at 100 yrds. i use this gun mostly for long range and I'm getting well under Mao groups out to 1000 yards from a Harris bypod. just remember that every gun is diffrent and the only way you will find the best load for your gun is buy trial and error. if you need anymore help of need some tips feel free to pm me anytime.

Magpro 165 SIE HPBT 70.2 2,828 78.0 3,223 64,800 2.800  This is Accurate Arms data.

The load I am using in my brother's BAR is 76 gr. pushing a 165 gr. Nosler Partition, Win. brass, CCI lg. mag. rifle primer.

I know this, he sighted it in with factory ammo, and had to adjust it down almost 9 in. to bring the reloads down where they needed to be at 100 yards.  After hunting season is over, we are gonna find a place to shoot 400 yds. and do some more testing.  It is a borderline compressed load, and the 78 gr. is a compressed load.  But works very well and is very accurate.  Gonna work up a 180 gr. Accubond load next, for elk.
