Seven days of bird hunting
« on: October 17, 2009, 05:50:53 PM »
My wife has "given me permission" to go on a seven day Washington upland safari.  This is a first for me, usually I get one to four days.  I am so excited about the prospect that I am finding it hard to decide where to go, or how many places to go, or even what to hunt for. I am leaning on the far east side to start and working my way west. Pheasant, chucker, Hun, quail, and finally grouse.  If you had seven days to hunt what would you do?  Also this is my Brittany's first year hunting so I really want to get her on birds. Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

i would start with quail, in wenatchee and then travel east for pheasant walla walla, palmaroy then finish up with chucker.
i have trouble with my dogs feet after a couple hard days of chucker hunting, i need a couple dogs for that many days.

Keep a good eye on your dogs. Maybe try and go for forest grouse by yourself just to give the dog a break. Have loads of fun and put up storeys and pics- good luck
This closet is taken- go find your own

Sounds like fun; just remember the E. WA Pheasant Opener isn't until this coming Saturday, 10/24. However, the rest of your targets are Open Season now.

Good luck.

Yes I know when pheasant season opens in Eastern Washington.  I am leaving for the East next Sunday the 25th. Thinking of starting near Dayton, then heading West as the week progresses.  Not too worried about my 18 month Brittany, she is in good shape. More worried about me.  As for grouse hunting she hasn't been much help, but I can't leave her in the truck.  We are in no hurry.  Might even take a day off to fish for steelhead in the Snake, and Tucannon.

My 2 yr old brittany hunted with me for an evening and morning hunt for chukars near ellensburg last weekend, her feet were to up. Good shape has nothing to do with it. It's the pads of there feet that get it. Either way have fun and good luck.

We went pheasant hunting for six days a couple years ago and the dogs were ok but by the end of the trip they were pretty worn out. We took one day off and went deer hunting with one of my buddies because the dogs needed a break. When we hunt quail and chuckar my shorthairs feet get beat up real bad on the rocks. I agree with all the guys watch their feet and make sure you check their eyes for seeds everynight. Good luck.
