my 09 deer
« on: October 17, 2009, 07:38:51 PM »
Got my deer today on opening day at 11:30AM.  first time ive gotten one on opening day.  just under 100 yards it was  shot off hand, up hill, and was quartering away.  one shot, one kill.  150 grain nosler partition with 51.0 of H4350, hand loaded the night before.  deer stepped up the hill bout 4-6 steps then fell backwards head over rear for about 50-60 yards finally coming to rest where the first picture was taken.  we waited 4-5 minutes and when my partner could see blood at the mouth we knew the deal was sealed and approached.  we were amazed at the body the thing had.  i was happy with its mass and thought the rack was intriguing with the two small forks it has.  my girlfriend just cant wait for the butchers bill this year...

we had actually given up for the day and were heading back to the pickup when we rustled up two bucks. He was the larger of the two.  he wasnt pry 40 yards from us when he got up and started up hill.  i dont know what made him stop and turn around and look at us,  but he did and it was the last thing he ever did.  the end.

if the text message i got from gutpile is correct hes tagged out also and got a fairly decent buck for the area he was hunting.  congrats to him cant wait for pictures.  hope it didnt suffer the same sorta ground shrinkage his bear did! ;)
