Opening Morning Lincoln County Mulie
« on: October 21, 2009, 06:26:43 PM »
So, I was out hunting in Lincoln County Opening morning. Story is pretty short and simple..

As we were driving through the field to get to our (me, GUHunter, and Mike) hunting spot, we saw a monster 4x4 mulie...Sad thing, it was nearly an hour and a half before sunlight. We ended up parking my truck, and I took GUHunter to a spot where he would have a great view and hopefully get his first buck, which he did! Mike and he sat down and waited. I took off on a hike about half a mile further down the property to a spot where I had saw some does the last time I was out there.

As the light began to approach, I was sitting with my back to the field that GUHunter and Mike were glassing, I wasn't seeing a thing aside from some sage, a few fence posts, and a farmer's house far off, nothing worth shooting of course. So I turn myself around on the knoll and began glassing the field below me. Sure as anything, I see some deer. I spot a doe and a fawn with my binos. I began to search around the field and see a spike, dang it. After a few more seconds of glassing, I see him, a 4x3 deer. I only saw 4pts on the side that was in the sun, I knew it, my day was going to be over barely after it began. I now had to wait for shooting light.

A few minutes pass, and BANG! GUHunter takes one shot. I know he's a good shot and a buck has to be down...was it the big one? nope...Anyways... I steady myself and my Tika on the biggest buck of my life. Steady as she goes....POW! one shot to his chest... He falls like a rock in his tracks. 150 yards and 100 feet in elevation drop. I watch him through the scope for a few seconds, and realize; I now have to hike back to GUHunter and Mike to get down to the deer's level, I'm sitting on a cliff about 100 feet above the deer.

After we get GUHunter's deer in my truck, we drag my deer to the truck and well, the rest is history! Hope you enjoy!
Wishing I was fishing...or in Wyoming

Guscottie, Nice Buck!  I don't want to know your honey hole, but what part of Lincoln county did you get your buck? I have been hunting Lincoln county for sbout 19 years and this year was a wierd year for for the deer. I have had a very good success rate and I know my spot and the movements like the back of my hand. Two days before the season opened I saw 2 legal deer. After that...not one legal deer until I left. I saw 115 head, 12 bucks and only two were legal.  :dunno:   Nothing seemed to be moving after the Saturday rainstorm. I hunt on the Rosman ranch northeast of Davenport. He owns the property nieghboring my grandparents old wheat ranch. I have hunted his place for 19 years. On opening weekend the average is about 6-8 bucks. Only two were taken this years.  I have taken a real nice 3 point out at Swanson Lake years ago. Good job  :IBCOOL:

I shot him with a Tika T3 chambered in .270, used a Leupold 3x9x40 scope. The area I shot him in is near Odessa. He was heading for some public land...I shot him and GUHunter shot his on private land.
