Damn, that would make even me want to hunt sheep.  WOW!
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

The story is in one of my Jack Oconnor books.  I think it was the 30's and the hunter wounded it and one of the guides finished it off.  I think they were meat hunters if I remember the story correctly.

I think it's still in Cody, Wyoming.  An unbelievable ram and the only one ever to have 50" horns or larger on both sides including all rocky sheep.

I just saw it at the Buffalo Bill Museum... It was absolutely unreal... if you google it, I'm sure you can come up with all kinds of stuff on it. Chadwick was also a very interesting dude... he was an inventor and a genius... back in the day...way BACK...he invented this contaption that...if you drove a road, it would record the corners and such... then... you could go back through there and not even steer...  it was wild....

The Chadwick Ram
Taken by L.S. Chadwick in 1936, this ram scores 196-6/8 points. This trophy is currently part of the Boone and Crockett Club's National Collection of Heads and Horns at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming.

- By whom killed: L.S. Chadwick
- Locality killed: Muskwa River, B.C.
- Date Killed: 1936

I was wondering if those super long lamb tips hurt his score or if that super length makes up for them. looks like it would realy hurt his mass scores? awsome ram for sure.

Thats  why they call them thin horn sheep, they don't get much more mass than that.

right , so if his lamb tips where back say six inches do you think his 1-3 mass measurements would make him score higher ie would he pick up more than 12 inches of mass ?

Good question Coach.  Let's try and figure it out...

Key Measurements:
- Length of horn: Right: 50-1/8 Left: 51-5/8
- Circumference of base: Right: 14-6/8 Left: 14-6/8
- Circumference at 3rd quarter: Right: 6-6/8 Left: 7
- Greatest spread: 31
- Tip to tip spread: 31

Ok, if he broomed 10" off each horn and he was 40" x 40", His mass measurements would go up.  However, his bases will still be roughly 15" x 15".  I would say the next mass would be 14"x14", and the next would be 12" x 12" and the 3rd quarter might be 10"x10".  That would score out to 182".  So he's losing 20" in length but not gaining enough to make up for it.  In most cases I think you get more score from more length than if you are broomed off.  What's interesting is how many rams there are like this out there that just broke off their tips...

I've seen that ram before, it is insane. I've personally seen a mount of a 46" dall but it had 12-3/8" bases...didn't even make the book (scored around 168) but it was a curl and a half. Crazy looking sheep. If you want to see a crazy sheep check out the cover of this book "sheep hunting in AK" by Tony Russ. The picture was taken out the window of a Super Cub, this ram lived in an area of about 800 yards its last 4 years in the Wrangells. You couldnt get to it and the ram knew it. Experts judged this sheep to be between 185 and 188. They think the right horn was around 46-48". The sheeps been dead a long time.

If you deducted 6" per side in length and added 6" per side in mass I think they would equal out.

These pics are from the same site I took the chadwick pic from.
Check out the length on this Rocky I think he was an unofficial 193ish. Then a dead ram they found on the same hunt with some serious mass 40"4/8 on one side and 40" on the other, 199ish unofficial.

I would take the top ram even though it doesn't score as well.  I like pretty wussy rams that don't chip their lamb tips.   ;)
