I was wondering if those super long lamb tips hurt his score or if that super length makes up for them. looks like it would realy hurt his mass scores? awsome ram for sure.

Thats  why they call them thin horn sheep, they don't get much more mass than that.

right , so if his lamb tips where back say six inches do you think his 1-3 mass measurements would make him score higher ie would he pick up more than 12 inches of mass ?

Good question Coach.  Let's try and figure it out...

Key Measurements:
- Length of horn: Right: 50-1/8 Left: 51-5/8
- Circumference of base: Right: 14-6/8 Left: 14-6/8
- Circumference at 3rd quarter: Right: 6-6/8 Left: 7
- Greatest spread: 31
- Tip to tip spread: 31

Ok, if he broomed 10" off each horn and he was 40" x 40", His mass measurements would go up.  However, his bases will still be roughly 15" x 15".  I would say the next mass would be 14"x14", and the next would be 12" x 12" and the 3rd quarter might be 10"x10".  That would score out to 182".  So he's losing 20" in length but not gaining enough to make up for it.  In most cases I think you get more score from more length than if you are broomed off.  What's interesting is how many rams there are like this out there that just broke off their tips...

I've seen that ram before, it is insane. I've personally seen a mount of a 46" dall but it had 12-3/8" bases...didn't even make the book (scored around 168) but it was a curl and a half. Crazy looking sheep. If you want to see a crazy sheep check out the cover of this book "sheep hunting in AK" by Tony Russ. The picture was taken out the window of a Super Cub, this ram lived in an area of about 800 yards its last 4 years in the Wrangells. You couldnt get to it and the ram knew it. Experts judged this sheep to be between 185 and 188. They think the right horn was around 46-48". The sheeps been dead a long time.

If you deducted 6" per side in length and added 6" per side in mass I think they would equal out.

Check out the length on this Rocky I think he was an unofficial 193ish. Then a dead ram they found on the same hunt with some serious mass 40"4/8 on one side and 40" on the other, 199ish unofficial.

I would take the top ram even though it doesn't score as well.  I like pretty wussy rams that don't chip their lamb tips.
