Tire Chains recommended
« on: October 23, 2009, 08:00:25 AM »
Looking for some quality tire chains (not cable), but I want the ones with the CAM tensioners. Anyone know of a local store that carries these. Tried LS, Schucks, Napa/Westbay, Firestone, etc... no luck.

i think i bought mine at the schwab's in clarkston. you might need to ask if they will order them for you. not too many people will have much in stock as far as chains go.

Ya, I just checked the Kitsap Les Schwab. I'll try Ellensburg LS next week. The LS's here didn't even have them in the catalog... ?

low-and-behold they have them in stock!  I was just in there yesterday speaking with the same lady and she told me two different times that they not only did not have them but that they (Schwab) could not special order chains... ? huh ???  She needs another job!

Anyway, I'll pick them up today!

Thanks all !!! :)

last year the day before the big snows we had here in december i worked right next door to the totem lake shop. they sold some ridiculous # of chains, like 600 or something sets of the easyfits in a half day. they had a wall stacked with cases of chains in the a.m. that was gone in the afternoon.

I bought some of the big chain ones today from schwab. At first they wanted to know if I wanted some of the small cable chains. I said no way, I want the big ones. They were getting some conflicting sizes on there computer ( i have 35X12.50X18 ) so they just brought my truck in the bay and put them on to make sure they fit ok. Great service and now I am ready for my trip.

LS as well, I just tried on the cam type that supposably fits my tire, but it was too tight.  I went with the next size and it's just about right.  Make sure you try yours on before you get in the hills.

I know Big O in Marysville stocks the chains.  Go see Calvin, he'll take care of you (if he's not down in Oregon chasing critters)
