Heck yea, we used to ATV into the Manauska Valley right outside Palmer and hit the feeder streams for Chums, they'd attack everything throw at them, my kids and I absolutey loved catching them, especially on a fly rod or light gear..... Almost a fish a cast, try that with too many other fish..... and when the teeth come full tilt, yee-haw, even better...   

My first fly rod salmon was a chum from one of those creeks.  Gotta love a 10 lb fish on a 6wt.

What fishery justifies the use of Loomis GL3's I havent found one yet.  I also had to laugh when I went to the Wallace river Hatchery and half the guys had $400 Loomis's while flossing and snagging silvers.  Maybe in AK there is a fishery that requires the use of extremely expensive rods? 

Nope there isn't a fishery up here that needs a $400 rod.  Have caught plenty of Kenai Kings on GL2's, and Berkley IM7's.

I roped some Chum at Hoodsport yesterday, then stopped by my favorite high water hole on the Skok and caught four more... They are there for sure.

I hope you know that you can only keep one limit of salmon per day. That doesn't mean you can catch one limit in salt and then go somewhere else and catch another on a river, that will get you a hefty fine.

I went to Hoodsport today and caught and released 3 before the indians started netting.

Have not checked the hotline in a few days, last time I checked it said they were only netting Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Forgot to mention, I was using my G Loomis Steelhead series rod and shimano curado...

That's like saying you don't need anything more than an old rusty 870 to shoot birds.  Nice gear is just more enjoyable to fish with, and in many circumstances (e.g. drift steelhead) it's significantly more effective.  Certainly you could use a yellow Eagle Claw to pull plugs or floss...but it's a whole lot more fun to fight them on a sensitive fast rod, and with a good rod you'll lose half the gear and catch twice as many fish drift fishing.

Agree with that 100%  but I don't own any GLoomis rods. All mine are custom biult Rainshadow and Rogue Rods. About 20 of them the last time I counted. Same quality 1/2 the price.

Man when did this become a Loomis bashing thread    I have a couple and absolutely love them.  Cant tell if it is jealousy or ignorance driving the hate but they are made locally and have a lifetime warranty what's not to like.

I don't know???  But I have a loomis rod and they are nice I just prefer Sage and have 5 of them I wouldn't say loomis are bad it's just personal preferance for me!

I have 2 bait casting Sage rods and a spinning rod all made from fly rod blanks by Gary Anderson, they are wonderful.
