SE Utah permit buck

My deer season in Utah didn’t turn out as planned. I found a big tall 30” 4x4 buck in an area that was recommended by someone who hunted there last year. I couldn’t get a shot at him that evening so I came back the next morning and there he was bedded 100 yds away with a 3 point. They got up and spun around and went into a patch of aspens about 100 feet across. I could tell the big one was going to come out the other side so I got ready. When he came out, I made sure it was the 4 point and I shot him. When I got to it, I could see that I had shot a different buck. You could have heard me scream “OH NO” from a mile away. I could have just died right there. Things happened fast and it never even crossed my mind that there might be other bucks right there. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I rushed the shot and that’s what happens. This one is a 172” buck that is a 26” wide 4x4 with eye guards. The one I thought I was shooting was a 190"-200" buck. It’s a nice looking buck but less than the caliber that I had set my sights for. I had plans to look for the biggest ones in the area then hunt the best one. But when you see a giant buck like that, the plans just go right out the window. I sabotaged my own once-in-a-lifetime hunt. Anyway, it was beautiful country and a fun place to hunt. Sorry about the bloody pic but most of my pics didn't turn out well so this one shows the best perspective of this buck. It turns out to be a dream season for me as I also shot a 347" bull in the rifle rut elk hunt in the Observatory unit this year.

Still a darned fine buck and a very nice bull. Congratulations! I'd say you've had a great season.
I'll bet you could crop the photo of the buck, cut out all the bloody area and have a pretty good photo for the wall.
Of course, you've already got those great antlers!
Regards, Guy

Well, I guess if you thought he was gonna be a 190-200"-er then I could see how you would be a bit disappointed...but...
....All I can say is that if I had shot that buck, you would hear me screaming too...
..but it wouldn't be "oh no"...
Great season man. That's gonna be a gorgeous pair for the wall.
