I know the rut hasn't hit in the southeast yet.  I drove around the other day and saw almost 100 deer.  Only 2 bucks, and neither was pushing does.  SHould heat up anytime though.  good luck!!

Day 2- Things started a bit better this morning.  Most of the does had at least a small buck with them.  We actually saw quite a few(about 10) bucks this morning with a couple 4 points.  Nothing very big, but my son said he may be willing to shoot one in a couple days or so.  Nothing that I'm interested in shooting yet.  There is very little snow up high in the unit, but it's fairly cold at about 28 or so today.   Bear

Day 3- Things started out a bit slow today as the cloud level dropped down to about 3000 ft.  We had not seen to many deer in the areas that we had looking that were at this elevation, but you can't shoot what you can't see, so we hunted lower then we wanted to.  In the clouds we could only see about 40 yards or so.  We decided to try out a different area and I ended up spotting a buck that was better then anything we had seen so far.  My son thought it looked pretty good so he made a stalk on it while I watched with a spotting scope.  He got close to the buck, the does busted out before he could see the buck.  They started up the ridge and I figured they were gone.  Then the buck came all the way back down (about a hundred yards) to round up the rest of the does.  No one was gonna get left behind.  I called my son and the radio and told him that the buck was coming back, he got ready, and the buck came by at about 50 yards after rounding up the last of his girlfriend.  Boom, buck down.  He ended up being a 3 by 4 with a 25 inch outside spread.  Not deep forked but a real nice frame, especially for his first buck.  I will post pics when I get home, probably tomorrow.  I think that I'm gonna head home tomorrow afternoon and come back on the weekend and see what things are like.  Hopefully I can find a buck for me now.  Bear

We came home today to take care of his deer and get caught up on a few things at home. I'm gonna be headed back on Saturday and hope that things might pick up a little.  Absolutely no reason for any deer to migrate into this unit yet as there is only about 2 inches of snow max at 6000 ft in this area.  I'm hoping for some snow!  Bear
