ICEMAN'S BEAR
« on: October 25, 2009, 10:06:14 PM »
Just got back from 10 days in the woods, shot a good bear at around 4500' in central washington. I am no bear expert and will not guess weight or anything. My wife came half way across the state to bring the hide home and transfer it to Michelle Nelson's care for a rug and skull cleaning.

The bear winded me and took off at a fast clip in front of me. I could get a good view, than nothing. No other bears in tote...took the shot and got lucky with a low chest shot, heart and lungs. I am wary to post the blood trail pic I took, didnt need to track as I saw the bear nose dive after about 30 yards....didnt move a muscle when it went down.

Heavy to pack out on the pack board. I will let Michelle chime in on any guesses as to bear size. This bear had 2" thick fat on it in places, very well fed bear.

Bear liver dinner was awesome.

In the pics, I am the larger guy on the right, 300+ lbr myself, the rifle is a .300rum, 26inch barrell.

Good job Ice!  I don't hate the fawn and calf killers, but I sure do approve of shooting, eating and enjoying them.  Especially, guys like you who seem to genuinely love eating game.

If you want a guess, i'd say it's a 150lbs and 2-3 years old.  Probably cut it with a fork ...
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Congrats dude on a well done job, taking another predator down.  Should be very good eating.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

:chuckle: Hey, I am working on that, lost 20 lbs in the past 6 weeks and plan to dump a bit more. Hills sure felt easier with only 20 lbs less...I was surprised how much 20lbs would make a difference.    :IBCOOL:

Packing the bear out with my packboard, all my gear, and 9lb rifle I was probably moving 400 lbs up the hill?  :dunno: Good thing I am such a stud!
