"Old School' archery
« on: January 04, 2010, 09:06:33 AM »
The other night we were discussing some of the late 70's / early 80's bows with no let-off and huge draw weights.   I can still remember (I was very young) when my dad and uncle bought compound bows.  My dad's was an old High Country "Trophy Hunter" that pulled 85 lbs.  My uncle had a shiny black Proline Typhoon that had some crazy draw weight as well.  This was about '84, I think?

Looking at the equipment now, it is hard to believe all the big bucks that fell to these beasty bows!  I have also heard of custom bows with draw weights nearing 100 lbs from those days!

Anyway, if you have any old school archery pics that show the equipment, it would be cool to see them......I also like to see the camo :-)

Here is a pic of a buck my old man shot with the HC from 7 or 8 feet bedded under a bluff.  Straight down shot, you can see the arrow if you look close.

A number of the elk I've taken with my old-school recurve I doubt I would have gotten with a modern bow - 20 to 30 yard shots where the elk just busted out and you had less than two seconds to get a shot off from when you heard it to when it dissapeared.   Maybe you can be that quick with sights - don't know ?   Those 50+ yard shots though were too far for me without sights - 35 yards was about my limit.
