i shot the buck in my avatar at under 50 yards with a rifle, most of my other rifle kills have been under 100, stretched it out to 200 only once and i can only think of one between those ranges as well, since ive started archery hunting ive had quite a few deer in close just havent closed the deal on a buck yet, took a doe at 30 a coupla years ago though

I walked right up to a pair of spike deer up on Manashtash Ridge a few years ago. Reached out to touch one and it jumped, but did not take off, it just stood there looking at me. My hand was about a foot from his head.

I once had a cow elk bark at me from 2 feet away. It scared the crap out of me, i did not know what she was going to do  :dunno:

Also fed a "twinkey" to doe in the Little Naches area. I have a pic of my daughter petting it. It's at work on my desk.

i heard a story from a guy, said he heard it from someone else. A guy was walking through a CRP field, the grass was pretty tall well a buck stood up infront of him, so close that when the guy went to shoot it he had to hold the gun over his head and angle the barrel down to kill it. Sounds hard for me to believe but who know? :dunno:

I guess i lied, when i was young went to Wallowa lake in oregon and ran into some huge mulies that i took pictures with, they were almost domesticated although they had a tag on there ear, the color of the tag was like red or green and depending on the color meant whether they were wild or not. I believe the ones i was petting were wild. We found out after the fact

In about 1989, I was on a gawd awful steep hill (uplake chelan) and a super Muley buck was coming down a crevasse at me, I was buried into the hill against a windblown tree and didn't have the shot. The deer walked along the other side of the tree, we were two-three feet away. After he passed, I whipped around and scoped him, seeing only the fur on his head and pulled the trigger, neck shot that close, deer went maybe 100 yards down the hill to the skillet...

I was in the process of putting my raingear on to cut the wind when I spotted the deer, raingear around my knees and had to hide against the tree quick... Even after I shot, I couldnt walk, slipped on the steep mofo and slid halfway to the deer... would have been a funny vid...

I was bowhunting for deer when I had a muley fawn walk up and sniff my pants and walked all the way around me smelling my pant leg. After about 5 mins of this I took my face net off and yelled "BOO" and she finally ran off. I'm guessing momma got shot or something.

I almost touched a sleeping spike in the timber in a windstorm, He looked up at the last minuet,I still laugh every time I think about the look on his face when He saw me, Also I came real close onetime while Elk hunting, I spotted a nice 3 point Buck coming through the Timber with his Nose on the Ground like a Hound Dog I think He was following a Doe, I hid behind a big Fir Tree and when he came up I jumped out from about 3 feet away and tried to touch him, He dropped to his belly did a back flip and was nothing but a brown streak going through the Timber, I giggled for the rest of the Day. :chuckle:

Fed a big 6x7 a leaf out of my mouth at wallowa lake. It was a wild deer but pretty much anybody could have done that. As far as in the woods. Three years ago i almost got stepped on by a two point mulie buck. I was huddled up in a ball and his foot came about 10" from my face. He must have got wind of me and then jumped back to see what i was. He looked at me for a little while and then walked off.

One of my brothers called in some cows and calves.  One of the calves came in and licked the top wheel of his bow as he stood there.

on Saturday at about 8:00 AM I was hunting a deep ravine and heard some crashing and thrashing in the brush...then more grunting and I could hear antlers smashing together...this went on for about 10 minutes but I could not see the deer fighting even though they were only about 75 yards from me....so I snuck along the fenceline down to the crick and up the other side a little ways ( I should mention they were on the wrong side of the fence) when I could finally see them they were less than 40 yards away, just dork'n around it was a really big 2 point muley and a respectable 4x4, his splits were only about 4 inches each, but good enough for me. it was weird, they were kind of play fighting, they would push eachother around a little bit and then stop and look around and then thrash in the brush making some nice rubs and then spar again just casually...it was like a big brother ruff housing with his younger brother...all the while I am kicking myself because I have no grunt tube nor can I do any rattling...after about 30 minutes of this they finally spotted  me and wandered off ...it was really cool, but man i wish I could have got them to cross that fence     :bash: :chuckle:

The closest I've stalked a buck was 12 yards this past early archery season.  It was only a fork horn but I had just started hunting and figured it would be good practice.
