Anyone ever stopped at 'The Logs' in BZ Corner?
« on: October 29, 2009, 11:08:41 AM »
The Logs is a restaurant right there on the highway.

But anyway, does anyone know the story of the deer antlers hanging behind the bar?  The lady I asked last year didn't know, but they definitely came from a bruiser buck.  If I remember correctly, the point count is at least 7X8.  The thing looks like a mulie, but the horns are dark like a blacktail.

Just curious if anyone's seen it and knows the story.

I grew up down there and if I remember right it was shot in the 50s up by mount Adams about 15 miles outside of Trout Lake. Its a hell of a buck. A buddy of mine asked earler this year if we could score it sometime and the lady said she would take it down and let us. Just havent been back to do it yet. And yes it is a blacktail.

That buck is HUGE...they also have 2 really big dark racks at the general store in Trout Lake....I dont know the stories, though i assume they are from the area, though i have never seen anything even remotely close to that size, and I hunt that Mount Wilderness area. Even if it was in the 50's....still makes me have some hope that maybe, just maybe, the great, great, great grandchild of that buck is still out there!

Thanks Mark glad to be aboard. I have hunted outside Trout Lake for 20 plus years and havent seen a buck like that either. I have seen some that make your mouth drop though. Just not as big as that one.

There's a great buck in the Glenwood general store as well. Again, shot way back in the day.

Oh..  The biggest Blacktail I've ever seen killed came from down south between Adams and Saint Helens. Still a good gene pool there.

Alot of them critters were killed by members of the Kreps family. Not sure about that buck though.

I know the guy really well who use to own the logs, and a lot of those horns are his that he left when they sold the place I will call him in the morning and get the story on the big one behind the bar.

Benchleg: are you saying the buck scores 247? The last time I was in there was this spring, in there every spring. How new is it?

That'd be awesome if you could.  I've eaten there a couple times drooling into my food instead of eating it staring at that rack.

I've hunted that area my entire life and have seen many quality bucks, but nothing like the monster behind the counter.

I just tried calling him but he wasn't home, I will try again tomorrow, I am sure he knows the story behind it.

Finally talked to the guy who use to own the logz yesterday and he said he is not sure where that one came from, he said the majority of all the rest are his but he knows he didn't kill that one.  Sorry I don't have any answers I guess it will forever be a mystery.

Update for this one, a couple years past...
 :chuckle:

Went to The Logs this last week and found out its under new management, and all the buck racks and antlers are gone, including the monster set.  The gal serving us said some bar from Portland bought a lot of the decor from the old owners.

Oh well.  Kind of hoped to get a picture of it this time.
