Late tag's 09
« on: November 02, 2009, 09:00:38 AM »
Well my hunt started yesterday so I took off for the day and went to check how the deer were doing...Ended up seeing some nice bucks.  Located 2 that were really nice and one of those was really really nice!!!    Got pics of one of em.  Both 4x5's but just not wide enough for what im looking for!   Ill update this post as the hunt progresses!!!

Would you have taken him on day 1 of your hunt???

My dad has the Pearrygin tag but also drew a bull tag so we will be over there when elk is done. I think he would have shot that buck.

Back in the early 90's I passed on a huge whitetail during a late permit hunt in the Blues in the first few hours of the first day of my hunt.  This buck literally looked liked he had a small rocking chair on his head...4 on the beam most about 10-11 inches tall with good eye guards and a split of about 5-6 inches off the G2 on his left side.  Without measuring would have definitely been 170 - 200 class.  Had him tending a doe at 100 yards for over and hour and decided to let him walk as I wanted to continue hunting for at least 5-7 days.  Son, who didn't have a permit, threatened shooting him while I was watching through my 10x70 Fuji's and he was looking through the scope.  Biggest buck he had ever seen....me too for that matter.

Never saw him again, passed on two more 140-150 class bucks in the next two days and finally ended up seven days in to it shooting a nice typical 4x4 in the 130 class.  Every time I look at the 130 class buck I took and had mounted I see the other three, and especially that big one.............who forever will be know in the family and circle of friends as the "*censored*" buck.......first word referring to me...lol.

Had four great hunts and 7 days of pure enjoyment in my favorite place on this planet, which is what it is all about.  :chuckle:

If it's a rifle tag I would wait. If I was carrying my bow I would have tried to seal the deal.

Shoot the big SOB and hunt with a camera the rest of the 7 days.  Problem solved.
