Where are the Spike pics???
« on: November 03, 2009, 05:48:21 AM »
c'mon, I know someone is getting a few????

I hunted hard all weekend and saw a ton of elk. I had a spike in my scope, in range but I wanted to be very sure he wasn't a forky. After getting several quick looks at him through the trees I was sure but not quite sure enough to kill him. once he got across the canyon about 400 yards I got the look I needed and with a good rest i was dead steady and ready to shoot. Well, he was walking and that's just too far to shoot when they're moving so I waited for him to stop and sure enoug, he headed in to the only spot on the hillside that was thick enough to hide. up and over he went and gone.

I was 99% sure he was legal but with the amount of forks and tiny 3pts I've seen this year I just had to be 100%.

anyways, saw a ton of elk,one forky that got the blood flowing :( maybe ten or twelve groups and several big bulls. I'll be back after them this weekend.

let's hear your stories and see your pics...

Wind was howling in the blues on saturday keeping everything tucked deep in the bottoms, but sunday was nice and things seemed to be moving around a little more.  Worked the week and was looking forward to hunting Friday/Sat/Sun but again there is a wind warning for Friday. :bash:
Didn't see any hanging Sat/Sun in any of the camps, but did watch/hear two go down Sunday morning in a small herd. Watched a little 5x5 feed on the hillside for an hour or so, but none of his friends came out to play.  Hopefully we can put something in the crosshairs tomorrow or sat to post in this thread but not expecting anything great as of now with the rain/wind forcast.

Elk seems slim to me this year :twocents:
Note: i have not hunted them, i just mean that there are very few reports of sucess
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

What is the deal with all the should be spikes being forks and tiny 3 points?  Is it just this year or every year?  I've been wondering.
