It's 'bout the same as a 270, ballistics wise. Just more expensive to shoot.

Just picked up a Ruger last week; nice shooting cartridge. There all expensive to shoot if you don't reload

i shoot one and love it more close to a 308 than a 270

. since it is a 308 case necked down to a 284 dia that is 7mm. alot of bullet to choose from from 120-175. you can go to remigtons web site go to balistics and see what the drop and energy is and you can also compare it to other calibers.

The 7-08 is one of my favorite cartridges for a light weight rifle, plenty of power for killing most critters but easy on the shoulder to shoot.

Own one. Love it. Will take anything a .308 will take, with better down range ballistics.

I have a sako 7mm08 and love it. I have shot 3 bears with it in the last 2 years. I would have no problem hunting anything with it if i had the right shot.
I just want to know where people get loads bigger than 140 grains have never seen them

my buddy loads his 7x64 with the heavier nosler partitions. a 7mm that heavy is looonngg. makes for a pretty cool looking handload. he has killed everything from foxes to zebras with it.

The ballistics were very similar to the .308. I was comparing the Remington AR in the .308 vs. the 7mm-08. It looks like it would be a nice hunting cartridge.

I have a 7mm-08 too, its taken 10 deer so far, shoots flat hits heavy. i have even taken two whitetail with it at 402 and 456 yards. mine has a muzzle break and a Leupold custom dialed scope for my round that i use. have hit a yote at 711 yards with it, and the recoil is so minimal, that i usually see the bullet impact the target. love it, love it, love it.

Never heard anyone call the 7-08 exspensive to shoot before.. Thats a crock.

Anyway, The 7mm-08 is the greatest deer killer I've ever seen. Ours with 140 partitions is magical. Leaves me speachless everytime.

x2 i am going to have a remington ar-25 in 7mm-08 in a few months just a little flatter shootin note the .284 dia instead of the .308dia my speer book says you can take a 308 case put it in 7mm-08 full lenght sizer and have a 7mm-08 case. i would not do it but i am sure it would work. but not a good idea to do if you have a 308 and 7mm-08 grab a case that says 308 thatyou necked down that would not be good

7mm-08 brass is plentiful and easy to get, no need to resize .308 brass, unless you just want to do it.

That should be a sweet AR. I want one in .257 Ackley.

Federal loads Speer 150gr HotCore in the blue box.
Cheap enough and I buy them for the brass.

Bought a mod. 70 youth ranger for my daughters. It's killed lots of deer. I like shooting it to. Made 200 yd head shots with it. I've got the dies but haven't started loading for it yet.

I've had a 7-08 for 10 years and love it. My 140 gr handloads chrono at 3000 fps. Plenty of punch for deer. I've killed alot of them with it. My 75 year old dad liked mine because of the low recoil so he bought one too. His shoulder can't take alot recoil with his bursitus so the 7-08 works great for him. We have killed several elk with ours using 160 gr handloads.

i really think if a person hunted where moderate ranges were the norm in the lower 48 this is all the gun you'd ever need.

This is why I bought this caliber...I was basically told it would meet my desire to hunt elk without a lot of recoil...of course I usually avoid these topics because I end up being told how many better calibers there are

me either, not always cause I don't like 'em, with a pin in my arm, it limits my tolerance for recoil. I can't find animals that need more than what I have though, they can't "more" dead can they?

7mm-08 is what my wife has and we love it. so much so I am planning on getting a couple more when my kids are ready for 'em. my wife has taken deer and elk with it and even though it was a little long & heavy for her my little girl used it to get her deer 2 years ago.
