I don't know, that sure looks like a blacktail that wandered over the Cascades.

Hey Bone in all your travels over there what percentage of the deer do you believe have been polluted so to speak by inbreeding between Blacktails and Muley's.

I have personally seen a load of bench bucks around Naches. My wife shot a deer out of Whisling Jacks about 12 years ago that had a black stripe down the tail.

I'd go 85-90% west of the Yakima river. I see very few that resemble pure muleys on that side of the river. The firing center still has a pretty good Muley base it seems. Though I've seen some on the Badger side that have th esame blacktail influence.
There was a buck on here that someone got in the LT that looked pretty muledeer like.

Just a reminder to everyone passing through the canyon, keep your eyes open for possible illegal activities. My brother's girlfriend goes to CWU and travels from Selah to E-burg daily. Earlier this week she saw a guy (I think with his kids) with what looked like two dead deer. She called my brother to ask if there was a season. We didn't think there was so she tried to go back and get a plate number and she then called the poaching hotline. They said they were sending someone right away but who knows? He was gone when she went back so it seems someone might have got away...

Almost every year I hear stories which may just be rumors about a good buck getting shot with a rifle right around Thanksgiving up there. Again don't know if its true but it doesn't hurt to keep our eyes open.

This one was shot right off the Yak on the west side of the river what do you think? I allways thougt all muley but now you got me thinking???

He has a pretty short nose compared to most muleys but the large ears. I read an article somewhere that the crosses had a black pin strip up the tail from the black tip but this one didn't ... but then I see others that people call crosses that dont have this pin stripe either so who knows???

I don't think so ... but here he is next to a pure BT and the measurements on the face were close and even though it is hard to see cause I ask for the ears to be pinned back but if they were out the ears were almost the same width as the one on the left??? So can you allways go by small ears and short face when determaining a BT or BT cross???

No problem. In the field photo he looks pretty muley to me, the mount on the wall however, he looks more bench. You can almost always tell by the tail the second indicator is ears. Might have just a little. Sometimes that isn't all that bad. These bench bucks tend to put more into mass than tine length, and that doesn't hurt my feelings too much.

The majority of the deer around the yakima/nile/weenas/ellensburg area are benchleg bucks. Some more mulie than blacktail, others more blacktail than mulie. My dad and I have two on the wall next to each other that were shot no more than a half mile apart, if that even, and you would never guess that they were shot in the same area.

My friend shot a buck in Yakima with nearly a full strip down the tail. It's the "full" buck pic in my gallery. small pic and you cant see his tail but it's there

most of the bucks ive seen around the yakima area dont even have a rope tail with black tip they have the blacktail tails to them being more whitetail like with black down the back and white underside, totally different than mule deer tails, these are the deer i always assume to be crosses

here is a little 3 point shot off the yakima this year...i know not the best pic in the world but i just got the cleaning call...lol.... anyhow he is all black tail..... just for kicks he was shot east of yakima and my buddy shot that bruiser out in the LT that was 110 percent Muley......as a crow flies maybe 20 miles away...... go figure... oh yeah one last thing any of you ever seen an albino moose? If not where would be the best place to put up the pics?
