Dead ducks in Lynden
« on: November 04, 2009, 08:27:06 PM »
About 250 ducks near lynden where found dead from eating moldy grain. This is one of the craziest things I've heard of. It is in the local news block on yahoo. Mostly mallards and pintails any one shooting ducks up there?

Good to know.  I will just make sure I cook them longer.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Wonder if they found any bands? It's to bad that happened.  I hope that is the only story like that i read this year.

Should not affect the meat at all. It looked like they stated "the ducks got infection of the lungs" and died.

This happened in an area the included my lease. No banded birds found. WDFW Biologist came out and collected some birds with us and confirmed Aspergillosis, a very common fungal infection that birds get from eating moldy grain. Not sure where the grain came from, but we haven't seen any new dead or sick birds in over a week. Hunting is fine and consuming the meat is fine, but you could get the infection while cleaning the birds. It is not fatal to humans with normal immune systems.
