I don't know where you are from but in Whatcom County our Game Wardens work hard to prosecute unlawfull shooting of animals and work real close with the caller.  I teach hunter safety and am saddened by the fact that this person got away with it and is still teaching hunter safety classes.  My husband and his friends are on the phone alot trying to nail some repeat poachers.  Twice friends or family has received 10 bonus points for calling and getting a prosecution.  You're a Red Neck if you have your local game warden on speed dial.  I've elk hunted only once but see alot of wasted animals, unfortunetely the special permits reflect it.  It is up to you and I to help the game wardens with evidence, there are only two in our county.  Do the math, 40 hours a week and alot of country to cover.

Sad, what  a waste. There will be more animals left on hillsides with the true spike rule.

The rule is not the problem.  The problem is irresponsible people who do not take the time to check what they're shooting at.

There is no such thing as an accidental discharge or an accidental killing.  There is only NEGLIGANCE!!!!!

This guy is not the only Master Hunter who does not obey hunting rules and regulations.  Every year, I watch some clowns  shoot off of the hoods of their trucks on a paved road in the Mossyrock Unit. They just drive the paved roads and cut off the elk as they run the fields.  I guess my image of a "Master Hunter" is a little different that what the state has in mind.
This Master Hunter permit season occurs in late January when the elk are out grazing in pastures because they have been starving from running for the past 5 months of being hunted.  It is a also a 2-1 deal with the cows since they have been bred for the past couple of months.  Great game management by WDFW department. :P  This is a topic of discussion by itself.

I have read thru most of this thread and have to ask does anyone know, for sure not rumor , this dumb ass was a M/H? I was over there on the rifle opener on stand by to help the wardens pack elk out to the mission. I didn't get a call or hear about this??? There was a email out to the master hunters to help by skining and packing the meat out to go to the mission in Yakama. The game guys dont want to wast an elk!! As far as i heard there were 3 elk packed out by M/H.. The master hunters were the guys that passed out the flyers on the NEW TRUE spike rule on the entry points to the clockem so incase there was that one guy that didnt read the rules.

What i did hear (rumor) By 8:00 am there were over 40 calls into the games about hunting problems. From guys on quads to hunting on privet lands. Maybe the game guys were pissing away there time because someone couldn't read NO TRESPASSING???

But If the guy IS or was a M/H he IS no longer. It only takes an accusation to get the permit pulled.  The gamys are there to enforce the laws that will ensure we all have the opportunity to hunt in the future. For those that don't think they work hard your way off base!! Try working 5:00am till 7:00-8:00pm ten sitting in a field till 10:00-11:00 hazing elk / doing paperwork. Like previous posters Help these guys out !!

So I hope  everyone had a good season. Thank for the vent seasion.

In no way do I think what was done was excusible . but I think that the game dept needs to concider going to a browtined bull rule rather than a true spike . It seems to me that alot of small fork bulls are getting killed just to be left to rot. I know that there's no excuse for not properlly iding your game but alot of the guys out hunting only get out once a year and some of wich I'm sure are hung over . Thats why I avoid the riffle season like the plauge .
