I have never Hunted Winston "Late Archery"
« on: November 29, 2009, 08:53:15 AM »
I never will agian!! Yesterday I stopped counting Rigs at "39" That was in a 10mil radias....OMG!!  Every turn-out/Pull-out/spur road there was at least 1-2 Rigs parked!  That was the sickest thing  have ever seen....hell the Birds even left!  I will never go to that unit or even think of hunting there ever again.  I said to my friend that took me there....i did'nt know there was a N.F.L. Game up here today! So if any one is planning a hunt there this year? Dont waist your life....the Elk are so gone......they may return by next year!!~MAYBE!
The wife said if I go hunting 1 more time, she's going 2 leave me!!  Gosh I'm gonna miss her.

I hunted it last year during the late and only ran into one other hunter while in the woods.  Most are just driving the roads.  Get behind the locked gates and I dont think you'll run into too many people.

I hunted Mossyrock 2 years ago with Muzzleloader, my friends had Bow and hunted Winston. Way to many people! I gave it up!

I've hunted every weapon but Muzzl.  Hunted all over Wa/Or/ID/ never have I seen anything close to that.  There where no locked gates to be found.  I think we found one that was locked....3 Trucks parked there.  WOW!!  I still can get over it!

That place is crazy with all the people.  I've hunted the late bow season up there for 20+ years and the last 5 or so the hunters have really come  out of the woodwork. Still quite a few elk but I understand your frustration.

Winston is to elk what Vail is to deer, nothing but a cluster f!  I hunted late archery at Winston one time.  We drove through a herd at daylight, we all bailed out and the elk were so scattered and spooky that it was impossible to keep up.  I managed to find a 6x6 bull and his cows just as they were crossing the Green at mach 3.  After that it was nothing but one rig after another blocking roads and driving like idiots.  Never again!

Okay, so Hunted winston on Wed, thurs, fri of thanksgiving week. Our group got a cow on wednesday. We were into elk every single day, and yea saw a couple rigs, multiple times, but they were driving around. Nobody got out and was hunting. Almost every patch of timber i would hunt, i was cutting tracks and on elk. I still enjoy hunting the Winston unit, though it was antlerless only during late archery this year.

I love the winston area.  lots of people and lots of elk.  I hunted it for 3 days and saw 50 head.  Saw 6 bulls and my friend shot a cow at 30 yards to top off a great weekend.  Just beat the timber on the sides of the cuts and you will find the elk

Been hunting it for 15+ years verry seldome dont get one out of there. Yeplots of rod hunters but still lots of places to get on elk. Wed before turkey day chased 20 plus around was real close twice no shot oppertunity. Friday was on another 20+ in the morning then another 15 in the afternoon. Sat. found some more Sun. Was on them from 7 to 2 was with in 30 yards at leaste 6 times but no shot. Mon. is the only day didnt get on elk. Then again I dont go up to the zoo.
