Montana Bear?????
« on: November 01, 2009, 08:19:43 PM »
I'm heading east on the 10th.  My plan WAS to stop near Spokane and fill my WA deer tag but since I did that in my back yard I figured I'd go after a MT bear (since I have a tag).  Anybody got any ideas????  I've hear the Yaak is good for bear and around Libby in general.  Any input'd be appreciated.

I have two friends that live up in that area, I'll ask them for some help and let you know.

Libby is great area for bear. That is where the Fish n Game drop off problem bears too. Anytime you are in the Libby woulds be armed. Never know.

I grew up in Montana and have seen more bears in the Libby area then anywhere else. Also by the jerky plant just can't remember where that is. I know it is on a back highway to Helena but I cannot remember the little town there or the highway.

Good luck to you

Galpster, the place your thinking of that makes jerky is in Lincoln, MT.

Yeah, there are plenty of bears in the Libby area, gonna be getting a bit slim for bear sightings this time of year.  I grew up in the NW corner of MT and have to be honest can not ever remember having a chance at a black bear this late in the year over there.  Now finding a grizzly this time of year is an entirely different proposition.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

Sighhhhh.........thanks guys.  Figured it'd be too late and they'd be spread thin.  Guess I'll go scout for a couple days and wait for the old people to show up.  ;)  Never know what you'll see over there, that's the cool part.  Ahhhhh, 7 days and I'm eastbound.

Got back from MT a week ago....no bear.  Not ONE!  Saw one faint track mixed in with some wolf tracks about two miles off a lightly travled road.  Wonder if the wolves would effect the bear population (killing shared prey).....
