A good day on the salt!!..Plus some bling!
« on: November 07, 2009, 07:57:23 PM »
Well today I took Dustin07's advice and headed out Sea Ducking. Needless to say it was a BLAST. We had shooting all day. We tried to take only drakes and bulls , but hens got hit a few times. We also had some Harli's come in but none were banded, so we decided to wait till we got a chance at a real trophy. But to top the day off. The first set of birds to come in were 3 bull and 5 hen Surfs. One of the bulls were immature, but as soon as he put his landing gear down "the bling", I knew he was going to give up the ghost! Here's some pics. hope yall enjoy!

holy smokes! I wish I had taken my advice then!

I actually went out on the flats to chase puddlers, but after a few hours of watching sky blasters and not pulling anything in our bag of deeks we took the river out to the salt to explore (never been there) we did finally see my first harli. My buddy didn't understand why I was so excited about it, but needless to say I'm trying to plan a salt hunt next Saturday and see if I can bag him!

Those surfs are great too, one of three birds I'd love to get mounted, the olds squaw, the surf, and of course a harli.

meh, it's already salted. you don't even have to cook it or anything, you just cut it out and let it air dry a bit and you have premade jerky.

You'll get him! Just try to have some Harli dekes out where ever you saw him. Trust me he will be back.

You process it yourslef or do you take it in to get it professionally done? I heard some butchers wont take waterfowl meat cuz the steel shot messes up their grinders.

This is crazy. The Surf Scoter was Banded 9-4-07 exactly where I shot it. And when I say exactly, Im saying on the X-mark. I thought it would be from the Frasier area or even Alaska.

A local one.  If he didn't travel to far, then there should be a few more sporting the same bling in the area.
