why don't you guys who hate the quads and jeeps so bad go hunt in the wilderness?  Or is that too much effort?  I agree they shouldn't be where they are not supposed to be, but whining about it isn't going to help.  Go hunt in the wilderness where they can't go...simple.

Wish I could, due to alot of family obligations most of my hunts are half day or 1 day hunts close to home, its a long way from Kelso to any wilderness areas. I'm stuck in the Coweeman/Winston/Ryderwood areas with the *censored*bag quad riders. :bash:

:yeah:

Plus, a lot of old timers, folks in poorer health and/or any level of disability, heck normal hunters  should not have to modify their hunt routine just to avoid guys who decide to break laws, IMHO. I do not wish to be chased away from any area I have the right to be in.

Whining, may be one way to get attention to the real problem. Call enough, and something may be done about it.

When contacting law enforcement, wildlife etc...you may always ask to be contacted regarding the complaint. This assures a bit more attention to your issue...

Up Rock Creek this year in 346 was unbelievable.  In 5 days I did not see a single WDFW, National Forest Service or Yakima County sheriff vehicle anywhere.  I know they are all strapped for $$ and personnel but at least make a presence.

I don't have a ATV and don't have a problem with them as long as they are abiding by the rules. If they want to ride on an established trail/road pull off and park them, THEN hike in and hunt I have no problem with that. Its the a-holes that ride them cross country into prime hunting areas into red dot area that really Piss me off. Nothing is worse than hiking an hour or 2 into a closed road area only to have some jerk ride up on ATV, that really gets my blood pumping  >:(

WDFW passed alaw that says that during hunting season you can't have a rifle on your person that is bigger than .240cal.  Why don't they pass a law that says during the hunting season if you have a hunting permit for that season (ie rifle tag during rifle season) you can't have a non-street legal vehicle up in the woods.  That includes street legal dirt bikes.  Problem solved.  That way you don't encroach on the ORV groups rights to drive around.  But it puts a damper on the guys who drive around gates.  OR...................

INCREASE THE FINES.  The current fines are pathetic.  Jack them up to $5,000 and the confiscation of the vehicle.  This would make guys think twice about driving behind closed roads and gates.  It would also help the WDFW with their budget problems.

Norespeak Why should I go into wilderness when I'm hunting an area that is tagged with signs saying in big bold black letters NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES, WALK IN ONLY!!!!!!! Not to mention I hunt with my 9 yrs. old son and my wife. So now tell me why I should go to a wilderness!!! I think your missing the point. There is areas like the Moss's LK. ORV park and other ORV parks. They can go ride there and not to mention you CAN NOT ride any non street legal vehicles any where but ORV parks or private property and race tracks. If you think I should go more out of my way, than I think you got a problem. I walk miles in behind gates as well as a lot of other members here on this site and why should we continue to put up with it. B.S. I know of very few areas of National Forest Land that you can ride ATVs in. But I'm not going to sit here an have someone tell me to go to a wilderness area. The law is the law abide by it no matter if you agree with it or not. This is why all the land around my home got gated cause idiots riding there ATVs off the roads or going around gates. I say take there ATVs or trucks and fine the hell out of them an suspend their hunting privileges for 2yrs. or more time to come down hard on them. Auction their ATVs an trucks off!!!!!

I have no problem with people on quads riding them and parking and getting out and walking. but its when i walk up a big hillside only to have a quad come bouncing up the hillside and park next to me and ask if ive seen anything that pisses me off. or when they are driving around gates and think its just fine. those quads all deserve a bullet to the block

The gamys an cops don't give rats, well you know.

Of course they do but there are only so many of them and there is only so much they can do without catching them in the act. Its not their fault, they are doing what they can I assure you.

Agreed....100%. Most of the gamies are as irritated about this as we are.

im starting to see alot of electric mt. bikes with ranges of up to 40 miles this could be a great answer to accessing forest service roads and blm ground that is well roaded.  these bikes would would be whisper quiet you could still pedal to assist the bike with steeper hills.  especially nice for some of the older and retired hunters :chuckle:

Actually snowman you are missing the point.  Call your local forest service dist. office.  ATV's are legal on National Forest land.  That means anywhere offroad they want to ride they can, they are LEGAL.  At least on the Naches ranger dist.  They are not legal on system roads on the national forest.  On state land it's a different story.  They are legal on green dot roads only.  Oh and by the way, the forest service thru the National Travel Mgmt. Plan is REQUIRED to open roughly 30% of their road inventory to multiple use which includes ATV's.  Don't misunderstand me, I agree that they should not be where they are not LEGAL, however, ATV's are the largest reacreational vehicle user group in the country and are backed by many huge companies represeting billions of dollars....they are not going to go away....simple as that.

I don't understand you argument for not going into the wilderness...your wife and kid can't walk?  Mine has no problem hiking 3-4 miles into the wilderness to hunt.  If they can't then maybe they should get quads to hunt off of.

As far as singling out ATV's that's your choice, but I see a lot of people doing stupid things that I don't like over here during all of the hunting seasons maybe they should all go somewhere else too? That would be fine with me, I'd have woods to myself... If you really wanted to get away from the ATV's you could...you'd just have to put in a little sweat equity.

Your right, you don't understand! my 10 year old son has CP and is in a wheelchair! but I'm sure you wouldn't mind pushing him in his chair as well as have his 8 year old sister and 4 year old brother tag along on an archery hunt 3-4 miles into wilderness areas.

Norse, had I more than 1-2 day hunts I might just do that.  I already hike in behind gated marked for no motorized vehicles.  What part of NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES is unclear?

This year I had the only weekend I could go Turkey hunting blown by some *censored* on a quad who was out shed hunting and MILES behind the WDFW NO UNAUTHORIZED MOTOR VEHICLES BEHIND THIS SIGN posting.

What is so wrong with following the freaking rules.  Yes i took pics...yes the gamies got them.  No I didnt get into gobblers again that weekend.  I could hear ATVs both days...all shed hunters, all illegally in there.

Nores I don't care if they ride where there allowed. That's not my point. My point is why should my family and other fellow hunters and thier families go out of their way for people who break the rules. I'm like a lot of guys here, can only afford so much time before it affects my bills and other family obligations. Not to mention I can't afford to set my son and wife up with the gear that you need for back country. I go where they are not allowed so that's my point why should I go more out of my way. Would love to hear you explain to me why I should let the law breakers push me out!!!!! I'm not arguing about law abbiding hunters. You can put any spin on it that you want, rules are rules and laws are laws. And as I said there is some places that allow them, that's fine. I like quads and ride them. But I don't take them where I am not suppose!!! My point has been made!!!
