Son got his first Elk
«
on:
November 09, 2009, 10:40:04 AM »
My sons 14 and just got his first elk. We went up Tuesday after school because he had a cow tag, Dad was working and coming over on Friday, We hunt this area every year so we know it well, We jumped a nice bull the first day with a few cows running, no shot to be taken, then Friday morning we went to our spot we had been seeing them and jumped a cow she ran over the ridge so he was a little upset, thinking it just wasn't gonna happen, then I herd a crack and just looked up and here came a beautiful spike, My son had about 10 seconds before he was gonna see us and made a perfect lung shot, spike was about 70yds away and came down another 20yrd towards us and was down, after we quit jumping up and down and I could get my phone out we made the phone call to my husband and grandma and grandpa and they were on their way to help pack him out :We had him slid down on the road and gutted when they got there, thanks to a little snow made it easy for my son and I go get him down. Best Day Ever... I told my son that some hunters hunt for years and never get their elk, its his 3rd year and he got his..Yes I'm one proud mom. Now he can't wait until next year, already planning it. Spikes were 27in long

Yes he did die under that log. He slid right down the hill and under the log. Didn't take log to get him out. Just a little work

We are more than happy and proud to say we are the 'Grandma' and 'Grandpa' mentioned in this story - What a fun day that was - what wonderful memories we will always have. Our grandson made the perfect shot - couldn't have been done any better.
I guess it won't hurt to say 'Congratulations'! 'again' ..... He is a wonderful young man and he has a terrific Mom and Dad........ Now.......it's on to next hunting season!!
