I bet it will be on WH land west of Buncker Creek, within GMU 501, so from Doty to Adna and North to Independance Creek.   But keep it a secret,

Well it is out of the bag now. Why can't people keep new or up and coming permits under their hat until after the deadline?

The total applicants just went from maybe a couple hundred to several hundred.

As for the boundary, if it is per usual it will be private timberlands (still to be determined last I inquired) within the GMU.

I live in unit and the largest chunk is DNR, but Weyerhauser owns pretty much from Bunker west, there are a couple small private tracts, mostly Christmas tree farms.  I am heading into this spring app with 5 pts so I think I have a fair shot. Looking forward to it because I turkey hunt in unit during the spring and had a close encounter with a bear last year.

BTKR the secret was let out last year, They printed it in red but whatever....with Capital Forest having 521 applicants and not being offered spring of 2010 and Kapowsin having the most applicants (662) how big a difference would you expect ?

Yes, the largest chunk is DNR, but as I understand it the state land will be off limits just like in the Copalis unit.
"That portion of GMU 501 that is designated

The problem with 501 as with Copalis is the hound hunters will still be in and around the unit.

As for the "secret". Yes, it was printed in red, but most people don't or won't think about it until it is too late. The less talk, the better the chances of getting drawn.

Oh well, I support other hunters efforts and even if I don't get drawn. I wish you all luck. If you get drawn and I dont, I will still keep an eye out while I am turkey hunting unit and help successful applicants.
Also, I have not seen any hounds in area, very few turkey hunters even.......I know it is a large area, but with it being 10 minutes from my home to the woods I spend a lot of time/miles up there from Feb-June looking for them f#@king turkeys'
 10 bears harvested last year and 12 the previous year........50 spring permits.......wonder how good we are going to do?  I see more coyotes and deer than anything else.....

If I do get drawn would you be interested in giving me calling lessons? I use a recurve, so I need them close!

I hear ya on the close part. I hate/love the CF. Hate all the people, but love the fact that it is close.

With 50 permits I wouldn't expect anymore then a 15-20% success rate. Probably more like 10%.

I will show you how I call for bears even if you don't get drawn. If drawn I may even be able to go and call for you. It is all about finding time after the new year.

I am a very patient hunter and I apply for EVERYTHING, I have been drawn for my elk permit twice (didnt get an elk by passing on cows  ) and deer 3 times, but not drawn for any of the others yet....

HELL YES!, some people by lottery tickets, I dream about getting drawn for special permits. Having to wait my turn is just part of the game/ I know guys that dont even apply and I tell them they cannot win if they dont play.

I am going to be hunting area whether drawn or not. The best thing about not getting drawn for spring bear yet, is it did not take away my time looking for turkeys.

Last spring I had a bear within 30 yards while I was trying to get to a gobbling tom and hope to have the same experience this year. it was down in a creek bottom after fighting through shoulder high crap trying to close the distance on a tom, I wouldn't have been there if it wasnt for the turkey yelling at me.
