encore...28" barrel, 300 win mag, 180 accubonds...
fluted pro hunter barrel, compact sized scope...oooohhh....aaahhhh...
mines got a brake on it and it kicks like a 270 or less...a 64 pound 11 year old didn't mind shooting mine.
i think coachcw had a 7 mag barrel for sale somewhere too if i remember correctly.

30-06 ai any opinions

Post #24. I already mentioned that one, -if you're not lookin for magnum ballistics, want to be able to buy factory ammo that's quite a bit cheaper than any WSM on the store shelf, and that once fireformed/reloaded, has high potential to give better than factory 30-06 velocities.

Had I known you had an Encore, I'd have suggested a different barrel for it as Jackalope did. 300wm just wouldn't have been my suggested cartridge.

A.I. barrels are available for encores...you might need to look at bullberry or  bellm or something along those lines, but you can find them.

Go with a Thompson Pro Hunter, It comes stock with a 28inch fluted bull barrel the entire rifle is stainless and the stock is made by Limbsaver. I got one in 300 Win Mag I put a Trijicon Accupoint 2.5-10x56mm scope on top it pushes 180gr speer hot-cor bullet over 3000 fps that should be plenty for Elk up to and past 400 yards. The rifle will run you about $700 they are extremely accurate!
