black cloud choke tubes
« on: November 10, 2009, 08:50:16 AM »
I see that carlson makes a extended tube designed to shoot black cloud and wondering if anybody has tried them and if they make a difference. I shoot a benelli sbe 2 with just their regular modified choke now and it works fine but curious if the other ones work better or if its just a sales gimmic.

I haven't heard too much about them. Might try one of the bigger forums like dhc or the refuge.

On a side note, I noticed your screen name and couldn't figure out why it rang a bell. Then i remembered my neighbor talkin about someone he hunted with that they called Big J. Is that you by chance?

Holiday Sports in Burlington, just picked up the Briley Black Cloud Chokes.  They appear to be about a IC/M choke.  Supposedly just the right I.D. for the full pattern at up to 40 yards.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

My hunting buddy shoots that exact set-up and I don't think it makes a big difference.

Do you guys have a favorite choke?

I'm rather perplexed with the whole concept of using BC with a BC choke tube (or any special choke for that matter). Here is what I mean. BC claims that the wad stays with the shot longer (past the barrel some length I presume). Then what effect would a special choke have on the shot if they are advertising that the wad is doing the work and pushing the shot out and at a tighter pattern? Wouldn't the choke tube be rather irrelevant? I have used the cloud and agree that it does drop em dead well. But to have to buy their special choke for it??? I just can't make myself do that.... BTW. I did send Federal an email last year asking this question and they never did respond... What's next? special grease for your ammo cases so it cycles faster. Humm... might not be a bad sales pitch...  scott

 :yeah:

The FLITECONTROL wad is much more rigid than any other that I’ve seen and it is designed to hold the shot in place until well after existing the barrel. As long as you don’t use a wad stripping choke I don’t see how a special choke will make any difference.
