Thanks for the comments. My kids hunted both weekends and most evenings after school so they put in there time. We were out hiking and just looking for a legal buck when we spotted him. He was chasing does and rutting like it was the peak of the rut! The plan was for Sam (my 11 yr old) to shoot but she was having trouble getting on him and he was getting farther away. The other problem was that we could see another hunter and we were affraid that he might shoot the buck. Katie said that she was "on him" and Sam said that Katie should take him. Katies first shot with her 257 Roberts anchored him at 180 yards!
As it turned out the other hunter ended up being a friend that had reccognized us and was watching as I tryed to get the girls in position for a good shot. He saw the buck and could have shot but said he wanted to see one of the kids get him. He and my brother even helped me get the buck out. Whithout their help I would have had to quarter him as he was on a very steep hillside. thanks guys. Now if I could only get Sam a buck up in the NE corner........
