But I see no reason to say that people should not apply for units they have not previously scouted.   That's just nothing but

Don't put words in my mouth Bobcat, I didnt say people shouldn't apply for units they havn't scouted now did I?  :ass:

No, you didn't say it in those words but that's the way I took it. You said people should be out scouting now and learning those units that they might possibly draw in the future, so that they don't need to ask for information on this message board if they do draw it. That's great if a person has the time and money to do so. But otherwise, who wants to spend time and money scouting now in areas they may never get to hunt?

Ya know, sometimes finances and timing dictate what we have to do rather then what we want to do. I wanted to hunt bears this year but only got out twice do to finances and commitments. I drew a bull tag and didn't scout until a day or so before the season due to time constraints and finances and the unit was only an hour and a half away.

I don't have the money or time to scout North or South Coastal WA or even some of the Eastside units I may apply for. I would hope that for all of my contributions on this site that some one would throw me a bone or two or even the whole honey hole on a permit hunt.

If not, so be it and I eat a tag. Sheeet, for that matter no info, no go. Eat tag and not have to pay for gas. But you can bet if I get drawn for a unit I don't really know......I will be asking for info. That is what this site is about.

I apply for moose, goat, and sheep tags every year, and also some very hard to draw deer and elk tags.  I have yet to scout most of the units.  If I get drawn, of course I will.

Seems OK to me.

No I usually apply for the units John doesn't do well in.  There are not a lot of secerts for draw units in washington.  And as hard as most of these draw units are to draw, why wouldn't someone with information about the unit want to help?  Chance are you are not going to be drawn anytime soon, so its not like you're going to have to worry about the guy hunting your honey hole next year.

answer to the last question... those of us who live to hunt.

I'll go along with both sides of the argument, I scout a lot of units that I may never draw, I don't have a lot of time or money but hunting is what i do and when I get a chance at something I want to be prepared and it's very rewarding to have done  all of the homework myself. I don't have a problem with people putting in for units that they don't know but I hear a whole lot of stories about people who head to a new unit with permit in hand and don't know how or where to hunt it, a lot of times they don't have a quality hunt because of it. Most instances it would be nice to see someone who has done there homework and prepared for it get the tag. I just think if you're going to put in for a unit that you don't know, you better get prepared once you find out you were drawn and go take a look at what you're dealing with. I'd feel I owe it to the guys who were prepared and not  drawn. Thankfully most people on this site are great hard working hunters and they do their homework.

Makes no difference to me how well somebody is prepared to make use of a permit they have drawn. It's their points and their choice how much effort they want to put into it. If they don't kill an animal, well that just leaves one more for me or somebody else next year.

I think its ok to look at harvest data when you apply for a hunt then scout once you've drawn . I'm willing to lend a hand to a fellow hunter given  he meets my personal requirements on what he or she stands for and his or her willingness to share aswell. I'm willing to scout hard and expect they do the same. I also think that if you spend the time to scout an area your not required to give it up for the sake of the sight. I also think its important to stick together as a group for there are plenty of people out there willing to tear us up.It's kinda simple to me if you like a guy then help him out if not don't, plus most units cover alot of ground you don't have to give up your honey hole .As far aS HELPING A MILITARY HUNTER I will always lend a hand IE widbey hunter . It's the least I could do for someone that puts thier life on the line for our rights and freedoms .

this place is a resource for information. if you draw a  special permit  and dont ask  for pointers you might be squandering a opportunity.   i get the point  of the thread though. every year permit results come out and some guy will ask, how do you get to the desert unit, for his first post. :twocents:

Honestly, is there really a point to creating this thread?  Everyone on here has seen people complain about people asking questions about different hunts/units, whatever when asking questions, especially the people who come on and post for the first time or  two asking questions.  If you don't like what they asking or saying, don't reply.  Creating a post that in my opinion calls out these people for asking a question is ridiculous.  Gaining information and creating contacts is part of a website like this.  Just because you have 8,000 posts on here doesn't mean you should be on a high horse and are any better off than a guy who has one post.  Everyone on here has asked a question of someone else from from time to time, i am sure of that.

I think it is rediculous that people get mad that new guys ask questions. What is the point of this forum? I really like this site and am starting to not like alot of the posters on here. Alot of people complaining and accusing others of doing wrong. On one post a guy even accused a guy of racism! Come on folks. If you don't want to meet new people and learn new things and places to go then just don't reply to those types of threads!! I for one have went hunting with 2 guys I meet from this site and had a good time. Went several times with let.it.fly and cannot wait to go scouting with him. I think that is what this forum is for is to connect hunters together and learn new tricks to filling the freezer!!

Just think about what I am saying here. Like Rodney King famously said" Can't we all just get along".
Hunt em, Kill em, Eat em. Do not hunt em if you aren't going to eat em.
