Watch that WIND!!!
« on: November 09, 2009, 10:17:55 PM »
Went out for an evenning hunt tonight.  I was using the Black Cloud, 3", #4 shot.  I was shooting behind the birds.  I started throwing about a 2' lead at 30 yards and started dirting them again.  If you start missing the birds in higher wind conditions throw a lead in front of them.  Most misses are behind the bird.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

yup shooting behind the bird and not keeping your head down on the gun are the most common reasons for missing a bird. especially in high wind conditions

my buddy didn't believe me that sometimes you have to lead the birds by a few feet, he was certain you must be shooting WAY out of range if that's the case... it does happen though.

my snow goose i got mounted I had led about 6FT+ down in Missouri during one of the crappiest, coldest, blizzardy days i've ever experienced.

thanks for the reminder h2o.

and your shot string is probably 8-10' long too at that range. most misses on the clays courses are behind too...

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield
