elk poachers in Rainier
« on: November 10, 2009, 08:33:23 AM »
The Daily Olympian has a story about two guys getting nabbed for shooting spikes in Rainier.  The story says they shot them off of Rainier Rd.  The agents said they found them in an area that is 3 point or better.

Rainier Rd. is entirely in GMU 666 which as far as I know is an any elk unit.  The town is divided by HWY 507 which is the boundary between 667 and 666.  This is interesting.  The story is either misreporting the area or the agents don't know the GMU boundary?  I am thinking more likely misreported.  At least hoping so because I drive Rainier Rd a lot and am always looking for that "any elk" to go chasing after.

I think they were cited for being lazy, road hunters :chuckle:

Fish and Wildlife officers responded to a game management unit off Rainier Road on Saturday after getting a tip about possible elk poaching in the area. When they arrived, they found two immature “spike” elk that had been shot by hunters.

The area where the Fish and Wildlife officers found the hunters is open only to the taking of bulls with three or more antler points on one beam.

The Fish and Wildlife officers seized the hunters’ equipment as well as the vehicle they were using to transport the elk. The seized items may be forfeited, Klein said.
