" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

On my way as well... leaving Friday afternoon for Eastern MT.

I'm hoping my long hours of conditioning pays off- my desk job has put me top shape for the long drive.

Warm Weather Slows Deer Hunt in Montana
November 12, 2009.

From Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks:

The past weekend was mild, windy, and warm in south-central Montana, making for pleasant days afield, but not necessarily the best for successful hunting.

Data from four check stations combined showed overall hunter success dropping from 40% on the same weekend in 2008 to 35% this year. Hunter numbers were down slightly from 2008 levels, and harvest of all animals except mule deer were similar to last year. Mule deer harvest was down 19% from 2008.
The only man who never makes a mistake, is the man who never does anything!!
The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.

What's considered 'warm'?  We are going to NE MT... this week and fcst for next is lows in the teens/twenties, highs in the 30s/40s...  please tell me that is not considered 'warm' ?!?!

Hopefully the SE weather was drastically different than NE... anyone know?

I am headed over tomorrow.  I saw the same forecast.  I think 40's in Montana in Nov is considered warm...
