Onion Creek
« on: November 12, 2009, 10:25:27 AM »
Ok, my brother and I have pretty much (figuratively) thrown a dart at the state map and determined this to be our location for the late whitetail hunt.  We have never been to the area and are completely unfamiliar with it except the maps we are studying.

Not putting myself on the cross to ask for hunting information for the area.  Just looking for a tip about public land where we can set up camp.  If you'd like to help, please feel free to send a PM.  Thanks. ;)

I shot a 4 point just north of there last year.  I did hear alot of shooting coming from that area though.  There's not much public access around Northport, but I had permission to hunt the area I was in.  Saw quite a few deer, but the rut was just kicking in the last day of modern late buck, that's when I shot mine.  Find some scrapes and just be patient, you'll see the bucks.  It's like a light switch gets flipped, You won't see anything but does, and then all the sudden the bucks are out cruisin. Good luck!

Thanks guts.  I see there is a lot of public land (owned by the county so I hope it's public) in the area I'm speaking of.   Still looking for a potential camping spot if anyone is familiar with the Onion Creek drainage so we can get set up quickly when we arrive on Saturday and not have to find a place in the dark. :bumpin:

Yep, Onion Creek was infiltrated with old hippies back in the seventies. Just driving thru there gave you the munchies. Place hasn't changed much. Used to be very good hunting.

Affirmative.  Bad reputation in that area.  We stay away.  Just returned from the Northport area this evening.  Lots of bucks running around.  Unfortunately, I passed on some spikes and forked horns, and never saw the big daddy I had caught on my gamecam.  One of my buddies got a 4X4 with eyeguards, and another took a spike.  Lots of deer activity up that way.  Good luck!  Can't wait for next year.

Yep.  My folks used to own a cabin up there.  My dad sold it in the late 70's after it got broken into and his bear rug got stolen.  Don't leave anything in your truck (including the pistol under your seat)...

Stop by the Forest Service office in Colville or Kettle Falls and pick up a Colville National Forest map. It shows all the state and federal lands. There is a ton of public land to hunt there and you will find whitetails throughout that area.

A lot of dope growers up there and people who want to be left alone. Good hunting, but be careful who's land you're on.
