Late Palouse Whitetail
« on: November 12, 2009, 02:43:15 PM »
Have the Palouse Late tag and looking for a place to hunt in Whitman or Lincoln Counties. Never hunted in this area and the guys I put in with filled their tags during reg. season. Looking for some places to start looking and asking Landowners. Permit is for Whitetail 3 pt min. Any advice or locations sure would help. Thanks

:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:  Sorry Man, this is like the 10th thread on this topic.  I would suggest not applying for a tag in a unit that is 99% private if you have not secured access.   As a landowner in the unit, I see it all the time.  Kinda hard to have pity, especially when I have two 150" plus whitey on our ranch right now and I didn't draw the tag........not hating, just saying.........

Shoot me a PM and I can tell you about some pretty decent FFTH ground.   You might also try getting access to Hunting by written permission ground along the Palouse river between Colfax and Endicott.

I did manage to knock down this dink in the early season......

I totaly agree but I was talked into applying with my hunting buddies who filled out during reg season. They are on their way to Montana for a hunt and I am left to do it myself. So I am looking for advise and help on finding an area to hunt. I usually hunt the Blue Mts and own land there with a cabin.  Not a lot of deer, we got a cougar problem.

Thanks for the note.

I would not say that your buck is a dink. Bigger than any whitey I have taken.

I agree jj every year a few guys get this tag and don't know where to go. I just don't understand that.  :bdid:

I feel bad for you touchet2 but you're in a tough spot. It's all private down there with some feel free to hunt but usually thats not the greatest deer hunting. My advice would be to get down there asap and start knocking or look for the yellow written permission signs. Where were your buddies going to take you? Just go there, sounds like you already have permission. Anyways, good luck.

Also look at the online map on the fish and game website. It'll tell you approx where the written permission land is.

I wish I had the permission to hunt but it was the other guys who did. I am going to head that way tomorrow and check with Landowners, resister to hunt and FFTH.

Trying to follow the WDFW Go Hunt site is a pain. Did not show me much and very hard to see exactly where you were at. Gave some approximate locations of places. Not real helpful in my opinion, but that is just me.

Got to give it a try and see what happens. I have a few leads on where to start.

Thanks

Don't know how in need you are but I saw this earlier today.  There was another one for cheaper but looks like it got flagged.

I agree WA really needs help on their online mapping programs but it does give general areas.

Try Del Harris in Colfax. :chuckle:

You'd be grouchy too if you owned that ground.  Road hunter/trespasser paradise.....

I loved the steel deer siloutte that was set up a few years back(ok 5-6 years back, I'm getting old) to catch people shooting from the road. I drove by it and shook my head and laughed. I dont even want to know how many knuckle heads shot at that thing.

I attached a map off of WDFW gohunt..I think this is pretty good?  How detailed do you need?
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!
