Wifes first turkey
« on: October 21, 2009, 11:14:21 PM »
Hey all I'm pretty new on here and don't have any new stories as I haven't been successful in filling a tag for a couple of years but I would like to tell the story of my wife getting her first Merriam
I finally talked her in to turkey hunting with me so we were out scouting the week before the season started wasn't getting anything to talk to me and the day before the season I was getting frustrated and told her if we were over on the eastside I would have them sounding off all over the place and then out of the blue she Say's fine prove it as shocked as I am at the statement with in an hour I had the quad loaded the gear in the truck and a babysitter for the dogs we were outta there got over to her brothers place at 5:30 am and unloaded the bike got our gear loaded and road off about a half mile up the road I realized I forgot my licence in the truck so I turned around went back and got it and back up the road we went got to where we turned around and gave a locater call had turkeys sounding of riteaway her face just litt up with excitement we parked the bike and headed up hill a ways set up the decoys got her set up against a big tree and started calling within ten minuets we had to nice little Jake's come running in before we new it they were within 20 feet of her and bang first bird she was so exited she wouldn't let me cary it out or nothing we got back to her brothers and the guys were shocked that she got her bird there were 5 guy's over there hunting and my wife and one other fella were the only ones to get a bird that weekend I was so proud of her I bought her a new benelli nova for her B-day (notice the old H/R 12 guage single shot mule kicker imagine shooting a 3" turkey load thru it) I asked her how it felt and she said it happened so fast she didnt even notice the kick

Good story and good job. My wife doesn't mind me going, but she doesn't do cold, wet, or bugs ... her idea of roughing it is staying at a 3-star motel and eating at Burger King.

LOL that was a long sentence i almost passed out reading it because i forgot take a breath but it was a good story and it got me wanting to go turkey hunting again real soon and maybe ask my wife if she wants to go hunting too because she not too long ago expressed an interest in it but i have to get her her hunters education card first because she doesn't have it yet and this would be a good reason to let her have my mossberg 835 and help me justify buying a new 935 for myself i cant wait for the next turkey season thats a great story did you get the fan mount :dunno:

I love the 835 and REALLY want the 935... just not sure if I'm willing to fork out the $$. I think Remmington's 3 1/2" semi-auto is like $200 less?
