Thanks - Appreciate that.
You have a hound tag? If so, which one?
Hope you get a race on, good luck!

Machias - not ignoring you, just didn't have time for a long post.
This was our second trip out looking for a good cat. The first trip we spent five days and only found some small, cold or femal with kitten tracks. We had some real competition with the WF&G biologist and a couple of their hound hunters....thats a whole nother story!
The second trip we went to a different location and found the track on snow machines about 8 am. The first time we put the dogs on the track it was cold and we walked it out for quite awhile. The cat went down the ridge and into the timber and the dogs were having a difficult time lining it out. We ended up pulling the dogs off of it when we cut the track again on the other side of the canyon. The cat had went down in, milled around and then walked back up on the other side.
We put two dogs back on it and started walking it out. We found the bed where he had layed down under some tree baughs and watched the canyon. The dogs started getting a little more excited and were soon out of site about 200 yards from the bed. They ran about another 200-300 yards and struck on the track. The race was on! They ran the cat for about another 400 yards and he treed about 30 feet up. It was about 12:30 when we put him in the tree.
I stayed at the tree with two dogs, my buddy hiked back to the snow machine, let a couple of young dogs loose to go to the tree, gathered the cameras, leads, etc and then hiked back to the tree for the "before" pics. We tied the dogs, I let the air out him with a Thompson Center pistol and we took the "after" pics.
We calebrated that evening....great day cat hunting!

We took the cat to the biologist in Yakima and they estimated it to be 7 1/2 to 8 years old.
We had previously measured the Tom from tip of nose to tip of tail and it was 7'3" with the hide still on the carcass. Never did measure it after it was skinned out.
Heading back up this weekend to try to take another one if the quota holds out. Good luck everyone.

Thanks and yes I have dogs. I drew the special hound permit and took the lion in the Okanogan unit.
