Rattled!
« on: November 15, 2009, 09:25:22 AM »
I rattled in this big blacktail at 9:00AM on the 13th.  Sorry for the crappy video resolution, I need to figure out how to upload a higher res version.

Just for fun, already tagged out.  Trying to learn some new areas and see what's around for next year.

Great Vid!!!!  Gonna try the same thing this week and keep my fingers crossed.  How long were the rattling sessions and were you using a grunt tube or doe call???

I use a simple routine for calling/rattling.  I will do a few very soft doe bleats, wait about 5 minutes.  Then make some brush noise and a couple more.  I like ferns and salal because they offer good noise and cover.  Depending on the rut phase, I'll start rattling in different ways.  To cut ot the chase, right now I use aggressive sounds.  I start with a loud mash, to simulate two bucks who've been squaring off around this bleating doe.  Then I really hammer the brush and aggressively rattling the antlers.  On wet days I use a rattle bag becasue the synthetic materials just simply travel further.  I will make a lot of racket then stop with some brush noise.  get ready, this is when they usually show.  If nothign shows up, I'll do it again and thump the ground hard and thrash brush, break limbs, etc.  This is an all out brawl and you will never make the amount of noise and commotion of two real bucks, so go for it.  Just be careful you don't get caught in the act.  Been there, done that.
