Slow Day in Lynden...
« on: November 15, 2009, 06:26:01 PM »
My buddy and I sat out at my spot all morning and only banged six ducks. There was lots of birds and the weather seemed perfect, they just didn't want to cooperate today. Oh well, maybe tomorrow. Ended up with two Mallard drakes, two Widgeon drakes, a Widgeon hen and a GW Teal hen. :)

Do you get birds that flare off that blind or is the picture not doing it justice.  I am guilty of camoing the blinds to the max, so I am not educating them until it's to late.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

The birds don't seem to flare off it. They just didn't want to land anywhere. When birds committed, they did it without hesitation. I must say though, that that blind is new, installed like the weekend before the season started so it doesn't have as much grass as we would like and there is quite a bit of evidence of the excavation and such around it that just couldn't be covered up. Next season, when the grass grows in around it, it will be sweet!
The birds seemed to be more interested in a grassy shoreline about 200yds away where the winter wheat was close to the waters surface.

It appears you have plenty of tall grass around the blind.  It probably wouldn't hurt to cut some of it aways from the blind and weave it in.  I have a similar blind, but have also installed flip down doors to conceal the blind better.  The birds now swing right over the blind when decoying in.  It places many of the birds in the 10-20 yard range.

I made swing down doors for it, just didn't have time to install them yet. It was kind of a hasty build/install. I should have sat there and grassed it Sunday since I didn't do alot of shooting. Maybe next time. There is tons of canary grass to use for blinding.
