Harassed again, I think...
« on: January 06, 2008, 12:22:13 AM »
So I got a late start yesterday, had an apointment with the doc., but made it up around Stanwood to try and bring down some snows with the rest of the sky busters.  Anyway after about an hour in the feild I there was a single engine plane flying over the between 200 -300 feet off the farm lands.  Seemed to be circling over the hunters, and chasing birds away from us as they got up.  The last time I made it up there I had to give a statement to the game cops because a crazy PETA nut showed up (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,2759.0.html).  This pilot seemed to be following hunter clinds, and would change flight paths when people would get up and leave, or move.

Anyone else up there to see this, or seen it before.  I'm a little upset I left the glasses in the car or I'd have a tail number to report to the FAA.  Even if this wasn't intended to be harassment of hunters, I think its still wildlife harassment as the plane chased birds from their normal flight paths.  Also the pilot or airfield that the plane came from should be made aware that their planes maybe taking incidental/accidental ground fire as a result of reckless flying.

It sounds to me that somebody was watching Disney movies again.  There was one recently on just this very thing.  Some gal adopting a bunch of geese and flying with them down the coast, the the big bad hunters etc.  I love the image they portray of us.  I guess the only positive thought to take from this was how much gas money that idiot had to spend.

Get the tail number off the plane and if you have a video to go along with it your golden.  You hand that to the three people (Sheriff's office, Washington State Patrol, and Fish and Game).  With your data you send an email requesting a reply from your formal complaint.

I have done this with an elk hunter who flies in the morning to find the elk then goes to them.  Totally, illegal and put him in a huge advantage over other hunters.

I've heard other hunters mention problems in that same place but of a different kind.

The highway that runs to Camano Island has a few parking spots. From there I hear just before shooting light people walk out into the fields to stir the birds so that hunters have nothing to shoot when the shooting hours come. I have not seen this but it certainly seems probable. It could very well easily attributed to other hunters as well.

I've seen helocopters skirting the dikes at about 50 feet, but it turned out they were hunting for a drowned fisherman.
The first bird may get the worm, but it's the second rat that gets the cheese.

The worst part with that area "isn't" harassment from anti-hunters,it's un-ethical and greedy hunters who run out and grab birds that aren't theirs, where's the Wardens when ya really need them  :dunno:

I myself have not had any problems in this particular area with people trying to take someone else's birds but certainly I have seen it in other areas. I suppose if you were shooting off the dike or people were set up too close to one another that might be a different experience though. The way I look at it is that if someone wants to take a bird that I killed... I will pump a few more rounds into it and then let them have it.

Wardens are not in the business of figuring out what bird belongs to whom. Trust me... they won't play that game unless something that they can prove as illegal goes down. When it comes down to it I do get steamed once in a while but I usually realize that there are plenty more birds to be had.

Sometimes people just want the birds way too much.
