Barking hound- any suggestions...

First off, I know hounds are made to make noise. Had to get that out of the way before i get bashed.

My redbone barks more than I like in the yard at home. it sounds awesome and the neighbors compliment it but it's too much. I don't mind if he barks at cats on the fence or a dog in the road but I don't want him barking at every car  that makes noise. i put a bark collar on him at times like after 9pm and it usually works but if he's wound up during the day and wearing it then he could care less if it's zapping him. Also, he is a pet who lives inside and thinks he's a person if that makes a difference.

I feel for you, I have a bluetick, same scenerio he is a house dog, and when you put him outside it is bark time. have no suggestions for you, other than enjoy the way he sounds.

Get him a companion, then you'll have twice the noise.

What brand of bark limiter do you have? We have owned hundreds of hounds and I have found that Tri-Tronics works very well, much better than some of the cheaper brands. Good Luck....

   Name Trash Breaker THE BEST STUFF for Hounds!

I wouldnt take him out in wood!    Why would they Bark at "ANYTHING" but Trash Breaker Collar will Help u build TRUST in them to hunt right Animal!

Well here's how I always had quiet hounds at home.  Nighttime they were locked in their dog houses, daytime they wore a no bark collar when I left the place.  When I was home they only barked if someone came down the driveway.  

I would set their dog house up right next to the corner of the house, I would stake them on a short chain.  I would make sure the collar was on tight, I didn't want it coming off when they were trying to get away.  Then I would go in the front door.  It was only a matter of time before they would start barking at the front door.  I would slip out of the back door and when I came around the corner of the house, behind them I would come our growling, all hunched over, flailing my arms and walking like a stark raving mad bigfoot.  I would catch them in the act and when they turned and looked at what was coming at them it would literally scare them silly.  I would get ahold of them and whack them a couple of times with a soft flexible garden hose, made a nice pop, hurt some, but no damage.  Trust me a time or two of that, and all I'd have to do is hunch my shoulders a little or look crossed eyed and they were quiet.  They wanted no part of the demon lurking inside Dad.  On the other hand you have to show them when they do good, they get lots of loving and praise when they are good and they damn well know when they are bad.

this dog's something else, I'm not sure if he's extremely smart or really stupid

I also thought about rigging a switch for the irrigation so that I can spray him from inside the house, as soon as I step outside he's like, oh hi, I won't do it again.

I know its not a hound but i had a Chessy that barked too much so i got a muzzle. I always gave him a warning and the second time it went on for like 30min then came off. 2nd time 1hr.... after about a week of this I'd tell him to be quiet and if he didn't I'd just show him the muzzle... Magic he rarely ever backed improperly again.

Jake, take him out and run him for an hour every night, might help to burn off some of that energy

I bet he would find a pack of OLD hounds and fit right in.
