Hey,

I'm not sure about how to setup a link to my Youtube video, but I will try.

If that didn't work you can copy and paste this link.

Warmest Regards,

A guy from Minnesota came out here a few years back and we hunted together, worked together, and became good friends.

He started calling bucks like this 'a ten point'. I cringed! I said 'no, don't do that here, folks will think you are from back east'.

I told him that a buck like that is considered a 4x3 western count. He had a hard time with that.

I am from Michigan where a 4X4 is a truck, and a 4x3 is a truck with a flat tire.

Here is what your state has to say about the definition of a point.  It's under Antler ~ Report Type.

"Each antler point is defined as being greater than one inch in length and longer than the width as measured from the tip to nearest edge of its origin.  Antler points include eye guards if at least one inch long. "

http://wdfw.wa.gov/webmaps/gohunt/faq/harvest_stats_table.html

I have other videos and pictures that show all 10 "points" clearer than what you can see here.

 :chuckle: Now thats funny!

I still like the whole idea of counting all the points.  Though I tend to refer to deer and el as a 2x3, 4x5, 4x4, 3x4 or what ever it is so as not to confuse the locals.  ;) :chuckle:

Cool video.  Thanks for posting.

What's that saying......."When in Rome, do as the Romans do"......

I guess according to the WDFW definition that might be a 5 point.....hard to tell how long that 4th point is or how long the eye guards are in the video.  But around here that would likely be a 3 or maybe 4 point.  (Doesn't really matter about the legal definition as to what people refer to it as.)

Anyway, that is a nice blacktail.  I hope my brother can find one like that today, or I will help locate one for him tomorrow.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Just as I thought without even watching it. A decent blacktail with eyeguards!!

What is with all this "Eyeguards" stuff.  Are these bucks out here OSHA approved?  :chuckle:

Thanks Curly for posting the actual video for me.  I'll try to figure out how to do it.  I have a video of a Black bear that comes in and lays down at the bait pile to eat.  Pretty funny.  He is a 0X0 without eyeguards!

300- Fellow yooper here and I have to say that the way they count points out here in Wa,and Or is silly. They just want to be different than the rest of the world and then when someone says it right (like you did as a 10 point) they get all worked up. Kinda fun though just to go back and forth over the topic.

Hey there shoot-em-dead how long have you been out here?  This is the first year I went hunting here.  What a difference from Michigan!  1 deer a year you have got to be kidding.  I would like to be able to bow hunt the entire season.  If there is limited Deer here, I can handle 1 deer a year, but let me hunt the entire season.  I need an excuse to get out of the house.  There are a lot of complicated rules here also, but hey I'm here so make the best of it.

My girlfriends son is 14 and we are going to get him into hunters safety for next year.  I can tell that he has the makings to be a killer, er a "deer harvester".

Good Luck to you brother!

Warmest Regards,
Dennis J. Ortenburg

It's just like soda, pop, or soda water, different parts of the country call it different things none are more wrong or right than the others, but when in Rome, don't make the Romans mad.... It's a 4x3 plus eyeguards.

I look at it this way.  Your allowed 1 Deer, 1 Elk, 2 Bear, 1 Cougar, and all the coyotes you want to put meat in the freezer.  There are plenty of critters to hunt.

I mean how many states can you hunt Rocky and Rosey Elk, Blacktail/Whitetail/Mule Deer, Bear, and Cougar over the counter.

Not to mention Spring Bear, Moose, Sheep, and Goat if you get drawn?

I like the variety over the quantity.
