riverswest gear, back in the old days a couple small hot potatos wrapped in foil kept in your pockets keep you warm and when you get hungry a warm and tasty treat

I hope to shoot a deer at 7:00 tomorrow morning so I can be home early and out of the rain. That's about the only way I can think of to stay dry. Or you could road hunt all day drinking coffee and listening to the radio.

I'm debating on whether I should even carry my binoculars tomorrow. Seems in a steady non-stop rain they're usually not much use. Also I wish I had a good lever action rifle with open sights. Scopes are a pain. My scope will stay dry with the Butler Creek scope covers, but what happens if I see a doe and flip the covers open to get ready in case it's a buck, the lenses get wet, and for the rest of the day I'll have to fight to keep it from fogging up.   :dunno:

I say to heck with the rain gear, I get just as wet with it because I can't shed the heat. All this supposed breathable gear may be fine if you're sitting but not if your pumping up a mountain, I've spent a ton of money on the top notch rain gear, I pretty much just use it for fishing now.  I wear either heavy fleece or wool, you get wet but you stay warm, I just keep a dry set in the truck or pack so I can get out of it at the end of the day.

I Forgot to mention the Nimrod bino cover, they make a great little cover for your bino's that is fleece covered and waterproof and it's easy to move out of the way when you need to use them.

bobcat, that is why i have a Bushnell scope with Rainguard.

Leave the rain gear at home, wear wool, heat escapes, and keeps you warm even if you are soaking wet.

Or just stay home, the deer will not be out anyway for the next week!  :chuckle:

I think I'm going to wear my rain gear tomorrow. I'll have wool pants under the rain pants. It's just that I'm going to be in and out of the Bronco, so I'd rather stay somewhat dry instead of having soaking wet wool clothing. Maybe I should throw in a couple of big towels to help soak up some of the water. Won't be getting far from the roads as I'll have my uncle with me and his knee is bothering him so much right now he can barely walk. I'm thinking with the rain and wind that is forecast for tomorrow, the noise of the rain gear won't matter much.

I have some River's West camo, and I really like it.  It's quiet and dry, as long as you don't work up a sweat.  Tomorrow it will be pissing like a dog, and I'm just gonna do some teepee creeping in slow mo and hang out a lot.  Got me a Filson, wool-line cap with ear flaps and that keeps me toasty.  I'll put in about six hours on the hill tomorrow and call it a day.  My biggest concern will be keeping my powder dry, since I'm using a muzzleloader in unit 410 tomorrow.  Hopefully there will be a few blacktail bucks moving around sniffing does sometime during the morning.

Good luck.

I have a Rivers West jacket but I get too hot wearing it, so all I ever use it for now is fishing while sitting in a boat.

I mostly gave up rain gear because I usually sweat too much under it and then I'm soaked anyway.

I like to wear polar fleece. It is light weight and it will shed water and keep you warm. You will get a bit wet but still stay warm. Just stay away from cotton underneath. Don't even wear cotton underwear for that matter. It will cool you off faster than you think.

Ping and pong will enjoy an unfurnished basement while you chase big racks.

Gore Tex ONLY  Just a shell.  Rvers west is good if your cold blooded and dont sweat.  That stuf keeps the rain out pretty good, but, I dont own mine anymore.  Gore Tex only for me

Yer right, Bobcat.  They do get hot.  When I'm mulie hunting, and can't wear them, because I do a lot of stomping in the mountains.  But when I'm looking for blacktails in the brush, I don't move much.  Famous last words... but I plan on moving at a snail's pace tomorrow.  Hope it pans out.

Yeah I could see the Rivers West stuff working fine for that. In fact I could probably wear mine tomorrow and be alright. Maybe I'll throw it in just in case. My other problem with it though, is that I don't have any orange that will fit over it.
