Night time
« on: November 19, 2009, 09:35:28 AM »
Looks like we can start hunting at night after the close of the modern season today, at least over here on the eastside.  Anyone know any modern seasons still going on that I couldn't see in the book?

I think we have to wait until the end of the month.

Night Hunting and Hound Hunting
During Deer and Elk Hunting Seasons
Bobcat, raccoon, and coyote may be hunted at night during established bobcat and raccoon seasons, EXCEPT that it is unlawful to hunt any wildlife at night
or wild animals with dogs (hounds) during the months of September, October, or November in any area open to a centerfire rifle deer or elk season.

I could be wrong though.  :dunno:

The way the regs read to me, I would say as long as you aren't in a late modern firearm season GMU, you can hunt now.  Same with hunter orange, if you aren't in a GMU with a modern firearm deer or elk season you don't have to wear orange.

We can hunt anywhere there is no open modern season for elk and or deer during those months listed.  Since Modern deer ends today at half hour after sunset, then we should be able to hunt at night....as long as there are no Master Hunter or other special permit seasons open that I didn't see.

BullElk and I went out last nite for a quick call about 1/4 mile from my house. We called in 3 big owls. Ever seen a big ole owl walk up to a moving decoy? We finally couldn't stand it any longer and started laughing. Funniest thing I saw for quite a while, but kinda ruined the hunt.

The very fisrt time I called, with the old flip open door cassettes, back in 1978, I was 15 and called in a huge owl.  Scared me to death!!!!!  I was using an old Burnham Brothers cottontail in distress tape.  I actually got to meet one of the Burnham Brothers about 5 years ago, quite an honor.

The regs say lights can't be used for "big game," but, because yotes are considered "small game" in the regs, does that mean it's okay?

You can use lights at night for coons, bobcats, coyotes and fox.
