We have a plan
« on: November 19, 2009, 03:40:59 PM »
For my late season, Bullblaster was kind enough to secure me permission to hunt a piece of property that he was going to hunt, but tagged out on his multi-season tag.  We met up Sunday to go out for a bit of scouting and set up the trail cam.  Right when we get out of the truck, he spots a doe.  Good start.  After poking around a bit, we spot a scrape and a rub.  We ended up choosing a location that has 3 trails merging into one at the bottom of a draw.  There is also an apple tree right off the trail that still has fruit on it.  I go over to shake a few out and there is poop everywhere.  I only shook out maybe half, leaving some for later.  We're heading out again this weekend to check the cam and possibly hang a couple stands.  I think I have an excellent chance of finally tagging my first deer.  Thanks again Chris, I really appreciate it.

No I didn't.  I've never hunted elk.

We got the treestands hung yesterday.  Pulled the pics off the cam.  Things are still looking good.  Took some ranges and it looks like the farthest I'll have to shoot is 25 yds.  But the highlight of the day was the 4 point that showed up while we were setting up.  He was coming down the trail right where we thought they would be coming from.  If we were hunting, it would have been an easy 12 yard shot.  He saw us and skirted around, then stopped and watched us for a bit before moving along.  Man I can't wait for Friday!  :IBCOOL:

Good luck! We are trying for elk this weekend, my buddy has been in them thick on late rifle and they seem to be staying in the same place. No bulls to speak of but meat is meat! We expect to see some pics of you with a bloody arrow and deer on the ground! If not have a good time anyway.

Hey Grizzly if you need help with the Elk or another tag drop me a line. I have been eating tag soup for many moons now. I need some Elk meat or the wife will start to wonder if I really do go Elk hunting. :chuckle:
