Pile of Montana Bone
« on: November 20, 2009, 08:42:50 PM »
Had a fun hunt and shot typical Montana bucks I guess. We were a little disappointed with the amount of hunters where we were and had hoped to see some bigger bucks. We both saw bigger bucks than we shot but thats the way it goes some times. Shot a few prarie dogs and found a honey hole for sheds out in the sage flats off the CMR. One matched elk set that is 330ish and a single that is a little bigger. Took my portabote and crossed a small bay to hunt a less accessible area and that is where I shot my buck. Defenitely exceeded the weight limit and were glad the water was calm for the return crossing. With the way our trip over started with a lost tire on the trailer out in the middle of nowwhere I guess we finished up alright(a tire can roll a long ways off of the road when it falls off making it very hard to find in the dark!!) nwhunter

Nice collection you got there. Is that a lug-stud style axle?

Damn, that's more horns than we found last week. We found like 20 deer horns or so, but only one nice horn. There were a lot of horns lying around there.

The trailer had the lug bolt style wheels and they all rattled loose on that gravel road heading to the resevoir. Luckily we found the tire after an hour of looking in the dark, it jumped a barbwire fence and rolled about a 100 yards out into a field. Then we found one lug bolt and stole two from the other side and off we went. At that point we just wanted to get to camp so we could hunt the next day.

Just a heads up for you, I dont really give a dam, Id do the same but the state of Montana will bust your ass for taking sheds off the CMR, all the sheds I find there came from the BLM up top.

The are stacked like cord wood there and bleached white from one summer out in the sun.  Man do I hate it when guys post pictures that can ruin a good hunting spot.
