Put in a lot of hard miles...saw a lot of wolf tracks, and very few elk...woke up in the morning and decided to take the day off...started walking around camp and looked up on the hill to see 5 elk feeding into a canyon about 2 miles up the hill. So my cousin and I grabbed rifles and empty packs and raced up the hill. After an hour of marching and sneakin we came over the ridge and spotted them feeding in the bottom of the draw. We got lined up and did the "on three we shoot" scenario...."o.k. on three then shoot or shoot on three?" "shoot on three"..."o.k." "one, two, BANG!" I drilled mine at 268 yards and my cousin forgot to take his safety off and didin't shoot....so after about 3 seconds of panic, we finally got it figured out and he smacked a huge cow....5 seconds and the seasons over...time to get to work! We spent the next two days packin meat about 2 miles to camp....had a great time, but too many wolves for me...we'll be hunting another state next year!
