black coyote?
«

i saw a dog in a field the other day, seemed to be all black, looked like the size of a coyote, had the bushy tail and all the other characteristics of coyote except the coloring, could it have been hybrid coyote/domestic?

You can do a google image search for "black coyote". I have never seen one but they do exist. Just make sure it is not a dog.

It is possible. There has been one around my place on and off for several years and I can never get a shot off at it. Solid black without a single patch of color on it. I was within 30 yards of it at one time with my rifle sitting on my tractor 50 yards away. I haven't seen him since summer.

Railrob and I were out last year and a black yote ran across the road in front of us. I bailed out and ran over the hill and shot at him but missed.
