Another Shilapoo Rant
« on: November 24, 2009, 12:49:30 PM »
So...I almost didn't post this because the rants at Shillapoo are endless.

But...this weekend topped all weekends.

We set up on the backpond and literally didn't see any ducks after first light.  No big deal we had a great time.  The problem was when some ducks at first light went into a guys set on the middle pond and he literally shot right at us.  The bee bees skimmed in front of us and hit our decoys.

NOT OK

Then about 830, some geese were coming in low and fast.  They were 40 yards over our heads and were obviously all Dusky's.  So we passed.  Our esteemed shootist behind us had no problem shooting at them though and dropping one.  Of course those birds were also on a direct line towards us and the beebee's rained down on our heads, covering our eyes and the dogs.  We left after that.  I had some choice words for him when we walked out and he said "oh I didn't know."

That's a pretty popular spot and you see all kinds of hunters there. Some I would not even classify sportsman. I would rather have a peacefull relaxing day in an out of the way field or pond and get a couple of ducks, than subject myself to some of the craziness that goes on just for "a few ducks more". Hay wasn't that a Clint Eastwood movie???

That's a bad morning I must say. I hunt there often, but on the other side, and usually only have to worry about pheasant hunters popping shots off near me. I just get frustrated when other hunters are out near me setting up decoys at shooting light. Sometimes I get the occasional pheasant hunter who will work his dog right down the pond edge and then ask how I'm doing.

Do you guys ever see rabbits around there?  I live in Vancouver and am trying to find a place for cotton tail.

Happens a lot out there. I know it has happened to me more then once. I usually can't wait till the end of the hunt to say something.

Shoot back.  T's and some old school F shot are good for return fire.  Don't use the Dead Coyote.  It goes to far, you might have problems then.   :P
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!
